Finding the trail is a little tricky. Follow the outside perimeter of the waterworks facility along the eastern fence. Once you start up, the trail is fairly easy to see. There is a small island south of Ap Lei Chau that is connected by a narrow sandbar. I'm not sure if it becomes submerged at hight tide or not. We decided to just take our chances and cross over. (There was a...
Wilson Trail, Section 7. Crowded on a Sunday. Relatively easy hike. Watch the monkeys around the reservoir.
Wilson Trail sections 5 and 6. Watch out for the monkeys!
Why take the tram down when you can walk?
The descent into Deep Water Bay from Deep Water Bay Rd. is not clearly marked.
For some reason I wasn't getting an accurate GPS signal at the beginning of the hike (and I forgot to turn it off before I got on the ferry home--oops). But I got a descent signal by the time I found a good route up to the highest point on the island. Not well marked, and there seemed to be a few alternative routes, as well. I took a different route down...
The GPS track shows a wrong turn we made coming out of Tug Chung. But once you get to the stairs, finding your way is no longer the hard part!
Not a lot of climbing on this hike. It was about trying to find a few unusual, less traveled routes. Almost got into some bushwhacking conditions just northwest of Tai Tam Reservoir, where the trail was heavily over grown and hard to follow. The route to the north and east of Mount Parker is sometimes a little overgrown, but usually passable. The rest of the route is easily passable and well marked....
Wilson Trail, Section 3.I start off at the end of Section 2, near the Taikoo MTR. The official trail uses the MTR to cross the harbour, but I prefer the ferry which leaves from Sai Wan Ho.
Hong Kong Trail, sections 7 and 8.
Hong Kong Trail, sections 4, 5, and 6.
Hong Kong Trail, sections 1,2, and 3.
A fairly strenuous day hike that begins and ends with somewhat unusual, but interesting, routes, and also follows parts of the Wilson and Hong Kong Trails in the middle.
This is a 15K loop that starts and ends around King's Road in Quarry Bay. It is a challenging combination city and trail run with great views and interesting scenery. The route starts on flat ground, following Quarry Bay Park, which provides a good view along the waterfront. At the Grand Promenade housing estate the route turns south, traversing Sai Wan Ho, towards higher ground.A climb up Yiu Hing Rd. gives access to...
