Hiking | 5.4 miles
fantastic little hike down to the top of the first cinder cone.  Air was as still as could be, and completely silent within the crater-valley.  Very few folks on the trail, too.  Combined the silence of being in a closed room all by yourself, with the expansiveness of in a massive valley, being able to see for miles.  Amazing experience.

4th of July hike

Did some luvly backpacking over the Fourth of July with Todd & Paul, Charlotte buddies. First time in recent memory I haven't seen fireworks on the 4th. No matter, it was a fine and agreeable weekend - hot, kinda. It's been a while since I have been summer camping, which was a surprisingly uncomplicated affair. Gone were the worries about freezing to death if you have to get out of the tent at night to take a whiz....

did a 10-mile out-and-back yesterday, which was supposed to be only a7.8 mile loop:http://bp2.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip.aspx?tripId=6924map-boy here got a little lost at the beginning of the trail, andended up bush-wacking on the stream. Add a late start and I justbarely had enough time to get on top of the ridge, eat a frozen powerbar and scoot back to the parking lot arriving 5 minutes beforesunset. despite the less-than-perfect execution and two klutz...
