Tokyo downtown - Kitashinagawa
by oldpinetree on Aug 07, 2012
Higashi-ōsaki, Tōkyō, Japan
Sightseeing | 3.4 miles
7 August 2012 Fine and SunnyThe last morning of our Tokyo vacation. We planned to explore the downtown streets of the Shinagawa that we'd been staying for six nights. An interesting walk to see the old neighborhood shops and street scenes. There are lots of small restaurants as well, and should be an interesting place to explore more for eating.

Shin-karuisawa, Nagano, Japan
Sightseeing | 7.1 miles
2 August 2012Fine and SunnyWe took Shinkansen from Tokyo station to Karuizawa station. The ride was fast and comfortable. As it's a working day, the tourists did not pack this popular resort town of summer. We rented bikes near the station to tour around the place. Comfortable bike ride, nice food, ice-cream, beautiful mansions, we liked this day trip.

Sightseeing | 2.5 miles
25 March 2013 11 degree Celsius Fine and sunny weatherPhilip highly recommended Daigo-ji to me when I started planning my trip. Many travel guides stated that Daigo-ji would be "exploded" with tourists during Sakura season. Fortunately, there were not many tourists in this Monday afternoon. We had a wonderful walk in this place. We took JR subway from Kyoto Station to Yamashina Station (山科). Then we took Bus no. 22 and got off the bus...

Rokujizō, Kyōto, Japan
Sightseeing | 1.2 miles
27 March 2013 13 degree Celsius Light patches of rain A detour to Kowata was a bit impromptu. My young girl wanted to visit the headquarter and retail shop of Kyoto Animation - the studio producing K-On! anime series. I had half an hour of free time to picture the neighborhood near Kowata Station. Nothing special, I just felt good to do that.

27 March 2013 12 degree Celsius Cloudy and shaded After spending 2 days in Kyoto, we went for a day trip to Nara and Uji. We took JR from 京橋 to 鶴橋 and then changed at 鶴橋 to take 近鉄特急 to go to 近鉄奈良駅. It took me some time to figure out I should drop both JR and Kintetsu tickets together for changing gate. :PMy initial plan was just visiting 東大寺. I was glad to...

Ngong Ping to Shek Pik
by oldpinetree on Apr 20, 2013
Hiking | 4.4 miles
20 April 2013 Cloudy with sunny periods 26 degree Celsisus. Basically it's Shek Pik Country Trail from Ngong Ping near Widsom Path to Tong Fuk Catchwater. The trail was easy and was mostly descending. However, some parts of it were made of boulders which were quite slippery with moss growing on them. In addition, mosquitoes were very annoying. Do remember to bring mosquitoes repellent.

Hiking | 4.4 miles
2nd March 2013Rainy and misty14 - 16 degree CelsiusWe initially planned to go from Gilwell to Pak Kong in Sai Kung. The gales and rain at Gilwell made us reconsider and we decided to take a short trip to Shatin Pass instead. When we reached Shatin Pass, the rain became drizzles. We therefore went down to Pok Hong in Shatin. B&W photos are more suitable for the light condition.

by oldpinetree on Feb 20, 2011
Tsing Yi Town, Hong Kong
Hiking | 4.4 miles
20 February 2011 Cloudy 13 - 15 degree Celsius Relative humidity 72% "Three Joss-sticks" (三支香) refers to a series of three mounds at South Tsing Yi. I cannot find their names on HK maps. The official signage on the road mentions the road is leading to 細山 "Small Hill". At the tops of the mounds, there were official height poles, which look like tips of joss-sticks from afar, and thus the name. When I checked information about...
