Trips
Walking - Downtown Bangkok through major sights, tuk-tuk ride, monorail and boat trip.
Walking - Brandywine Falls. Cuyahoga Valley Naional Park lies around the homonym river in the
Cleveland metro area. One of the tributaries, the Branwywine Creek, has
carved a gorge after an 18-meter drop. This isn't an extraordinary
waterfall but worth a visit while taking a short hike on one of the numerous
trails around the park, or just the one-minute walk from the parking
lot. Nice when frozen.
Walking - Completed in AD 1560, the Fort Montalban (or Fort du mont Alban) is perched on the hill that separates the city of Nice from the village of Villefranche-sur-Mer which is tucked at the end of the homonym bay, a magnificent natural port. Not far from Riquier train station, the climb to the fort follows roads and staircases reaching a quiet public park. The fort can't be visited inside but its...
Walking - Toce Waterfall (Cascate del Toce).
Tucked in the northernmost portion of Piemonte, the Toce Waterfall is
the second highest in Europe and one among the most dramatic. The Toce
river carved the narrow "V" shaped Formazza Valley which shows off its
dark granite substance to the visitor. Upstream from the waterfall, a
dam collects the Toce waters for hydroelectric purposes in the Morasco Lake and the
waterfall in full swing...
Walking - Relaxed walk from Nice to Villefranche and back. The original plan was to return through Mont Boron but we couldn't find a feasible route or trail, I'm now curious to investigate!
Walking - Ouro Preto. This UNESCO World Heritage site had developed to become the most important town of Minas Gerais during the gold rush age, connected to the distant commercial port of Paraty by the Estrada Real. Revolutionary ideas that took shape here didn't go too far and basically ended with the execution of the leader, Tiradentes, on the gallows in the homonym main square. The historical city center hasn't changed much...
Walking - Oddly enough, Paraty is the only place I've found around Brazil where the map is inaccurate and doesn't correspond to the recorded track. The satellite view map shows the correct position but other maps (hybrid, map, terrain) show the same offset error I experienced with the Garmin map in my GPS. Funny thing is that I had created a waypoint with Google Maps for the hotel I had reserved and of...
Walking - Ipanema, Copacabana and a stunning ride up Sugar Loaf
Walking - A beach walk can turn out to be a long one in Florianopolis with a chance to experience tall sand dunes. From our hotel in Campeche we explored in search of a bus connection to Lagoa da Conceição which is included in this track between the bus stop and bus terminal waypoints. Total walking distance was 12 Km. We first reached Joaquina Beach where it's possible to rent a sandboard...
Walking - Iguaçu (Iguazu) Falls. A slight spelling difference reveals that this wonder of nature is shared by Brazil and Argentina as it lies on the border between the two countries. For the impressive beauty, the falls definitely deserve to be visited from both sides. Consider about 7 Km on foot in Brazil plus 15 Km on foot in Argentina.
Walking - A visit to friends and gorgeous weather inspired a walk within the largest fenced park in Europe. The Parco di Monza was established in 1805 as a hunting reserve and the protected area has since been spared from the otherwise inevitable urban sprawl of the greater Milano. This area include the Autodromo di Monza racetrack and a golf course, which are the only structures not freely accessible by ...
