Left early on a cool morning with Cissy to explore Franklin Creek, off the Escatawpa River. We started at Presleys on Goodes Mill Lake. We made it to the bridge and back, just over nine miles today. I was surprised to see snakes this time of the year, we ran across four of them on the water today. Not a bad start and workout for the new kayaking season. My...
Firs trip of the new year. Cool weather, with Belinda and Cissy. Just a short the mile run to get broke in and ready for new adventures.
Joined the Making Strides walk today with Belinda, Cissy, Chris, Connie and Urban

Great trip, starting out at 8 a.m., on a chilly morning at Rice Creek Landing, near Stockton, AL., led by Paul Taylor. We had 11 paddlers, with a goal of making it to Mound Island to find the Bottle Creek Indian Mounds. A good story about the mounds can be found in this Press Register article. The trip took us down Rice Creek, across Briar Lake, then through a shortcut through...
Made a short trip today with a group from Gulf Port. We had about 15 kayaks and it was a good run. It rained the whole trip which made it enjoyable. The rain made the temperature perfect. We started at Goodes Mill Lake, went south down the Escatawpa River. We then went through what is known as Cootermans Pass, a short, cutout through some low hanging trees that opens into Franklin Creek....
Wednesday evening trip down the Escatawpa and a little exploring on Franklin Creek. Can't wait to go back. Good trip with Belinda, Connie and Urban.
We took seven kayaks and ten paddlers up the Escatawpa to Lyons Lake and back. Took about three hours, but it was a good eight mile trip.
Early morning kayak trip up the river in Magnolia Springs. We had a small group of seven kayaks, led my Nancy Ward.
Early morning paddle with Belinda up to Lyons Lake and back. The weather was beautiful and the river very calm today. School must be starting up, no jet skis or boats this morning. We ended up cleaning a couple of beaches along the way up the river. It's a shame that people that love this river leave their trash on the beaches. Looks like we are going to take trash...
Belinda and I make a short run from Presley's Outing, on Goodes Mill Lake, up the Escatawpa to Lyon's Lake. We really enjoy this part of the river and the activity we find. There are always good people along the way, campers, boaters and people who love to fish. The weather was great, with a small rain shower up at Lyon's Lake, sent to cool us off.

Short paddle this morning from Lyons Lake, Presley's Outing, up the Escatawpa River to Lyons Lake and back. The river was still high from last weeks rain. While normally it is hard to notice the river moving, today it was very obvious that it was moving south. The normal sand bars and resting stops were under water today. I made it up to the lake in about 70 minutes and made it...
Escatawpa River, Goodes Mill Lake To I-10 and Back

This has been a great week. My wonderful wife has been kayaking with me everywhere. Today we decided to leave from Goodes Mill Lake and work our way down to I-10. It is about 9 miles round trip. We left out early and it took us less than four hours, with a couple of rest stops along the way. The Escatawpa is a beautiful river, moving very slowly and great for kayaking....
As with every trip out, there should always be a short story. While paddling on the back lake, I heard what sounded like a huge frog, with the sound came from Belinda's kayak. Ok, maybe I was hearing things, but then Belinda starts twisting every direction in her kayak looking for the source of the sound. Then, all of a sudden, something hits her in the back, she screams, starts twisting around...
Belinda decided to turn our meek and mild Cookie into a swamp dog today. She handled it well and did a great job. Like us, she was pretty relaxed and enjoyed the water. By the way, for all of our kayaking buddies, there are no gators here, so Cookie in a kayak was safe. Great place for an early morning paddle. We really love Presley's Outing and being out early on Goode's Mill...
