Kayaking / Canoeing Guides and Trips
Trips
Three of us; Tabitha, Nancy and myself; along with the help of John did the first moonlight paddle of the season from the lower side of the Guntersville Dam to the Madison County Boat Harbor. It was a great trip with perfect weather, no obnoxious boaters, and calm waters. This is definetly a trip I want to do again the future.
Eight of us from the Huntsville Canoe Club joined up to head out to Bear Creek for the first time of the year. As TVA releases water over the weekend, its a really nice trip. There are a few Class I/II and possible a Class III rapid on the trip and it is overall a nice relaxing day. We couldn't have asked for a better weather forecast. It was somewhat busy with...
My first trip out to Wheeler Wildlife refuge, unfortently I forgot to charge my camera batteries.
Four of us (Jim, Ronnie, Lindsay, and myself) ventured out on from the put in at Brushy Lake to head down the creek. It was quite enjoyable as it was my first experience out on a creek (as opposed to the normal flatwater I usually do).
Just a simple trip around Hobbs Island in the Tennessee today. I was pretty happy to try out a new paddle that I made, a greenland storm paddle. It will be a good backup paddle.
Redstone Arsenal to Hobbs Island and Back
Sandhurst Park, Alabama, United States
Kayaking / Canoeing | 12.7 miles
Kayaking / Canoeing | 12.7 miles
I launched out of the boat launch on the Arsenal alone and proceeded up the Tennessee River to meet up with some people from HCC who left the Hobbs Island Marina. I had perfect timing and joined up with 5 other paddlers for the couple mile trip around the island. You could definetly tell when I rounded the island and started downriver by looking at the speed graph. This was by far...
Guntersville Dam to Goat Island
Guntersville, Alabama, United States
Kayaking / Canoeing | 7.2 miles
Kayaking / Canoeing | 7.2 miles
On my first trip out with members from the Huntsville Canoe Club, we did a leisurely 7.5 mile paddle from the Guntersville Dam on the Tennesee River out to Goat Island and Back. It was a nice day, although a bit cold at 35 or so with quite the wind starting to pick up.
Another trip with SSAK. We launched out at Mud Bay and proceeded to explore around as much as the ice and the weather would let us. Saw a large amount of wildlife, and as the pictures show, it was a beautiful day outside.
Little Manzanita to Fay Bainbridge State Park
West Port Madison, Washington, United States
Kayaking / Canoeing | 9.4 miles
Kayaking / Canoeing | 9.4 miles
A group of I believe 18 kayakers ventured out on a fine November day from Manzanita to Fay Bainbridge State Park. It was my first time out on the water in almost 2 months and it was great.
I took Yellow Mark up on his offer and decided to put in at Boston Harbor. I guess I left a few minutes early as I was the only one there and I paddled solo down to Olympia Harbor. I met up with the rest of SSAK down there and toured around the harbor. Saw a bunch of the tugboats and went through the Olympia Yacht Club. Harbor seals were pretty inquisitive...
24 of us gathered at Walker park to do Hammersly Inlet out to Hope Island. We rode the tide out and ate lunch at Hope Island. Then we waited a bit and played around in the water and rode the tide back in. I think the max speed at times was close to 8mph. Overall a thoughly enjoyable trip minus the wind at the end.
Three of us went from the 10th street docks in Everett up to Tulalip bay and messed around a bit. We had a few adventures with an extremely low tide and seeing some odd people out and about. Learned a bit about sand-shrimping also. Beautiful day out on the water though overall.
A bunch of us launched off of Luhr Beach near the Nisqually river and proceeded up one of the sloughs as far as the water would take us. When the water ran out, we turned around and headed back out to the Delta. Along the way , Yellow Mark and I explored one of the side sloughs and found the mouth of the Nisqually River. We then wentback and joined the rest...
Owens beach down through Commencement bay to see the Tall Ships parade.
