ATV/Offroading | 355 miles
The Magruder Corridor (MC) is a 100 + mile single-lane 'primitive'
road running essentially between Elk City, Idaho and Conner, Montana, situated between
the Bitterroot-Selway Wilderness (to the north) and Frank Church - River of No
Return Wilderness (to the south). It is
named after Lloyd Magruder who was murdered with four other members of his
party for his gold in October 1863. With
the exception of a small stretch of payment on the eastern end of the...
Hettinger Ranch (South Fork Ranch) Pictoglyphs

Warren, Idaho, United States
ATV/Offroading | 31 miles
ATV/Offroading | 31 miles
Our objective was clear, go down to the Hettinger Ranch (South Fork Ranch) on our ATVs and if possible locate the pictoglyphs which are indicated on certain maps. After
trailering our ATVs to the ranger station in Warren, ID, we headed east on FDR
340 for about 4 miles to the summit. The summit is nearly 7,000 feet.
We took FDR 337 and immediately started the gradual and constant decent of 4,200
vertical feet to...
Having gone to several
overlooks in the Bruneau
- Jarbridge Rivers Wilderness previously, including the somewhat nearby 'Austin's Trail,' Trapper42 & I decided to
explore on further south. More specifically our destination was the
overlook at the confluence of the Bruneau River and Sheep Creek (as well as an
unnamed area about 2 miles to the north). Once there of course we took
photos and he took the following videos. This is the view from the Sheep Creek overlook:

Having
heard of an old military jet crash site somewhere in the Owyhees, I collected
information from various sources which confirmed there was in fact a jet crash at Wild Horse Table in Owyhee County, Idaho. The best information to date indicates the jet was a USAF McDonnell Douglas Phantom F-4D. The tail number was 65889 and the accident date was October 04, 1969. Should anyone have information regarding the crash (especially the pilot) please contact me...
What a day
for a ride. Having watched the weather
forecast the previous several days it was obvious the good weather was coming
to us for this ride. No wonder 11
ATV'ers (and one dog) showed up for this more or less impromptu event to the top of Toy Mountain.
All riders rendezvoused
at the Murphy Store, Cafe & Emporium at about 9:00 a.m. After a hearty breakfast, and a bunch of
stories (maybe a few untruisms), all...
Just after the crack of dawn, almost
11:00 a.m., Harv, Ed, Gary and I unloaded our ATVs & UTV and departed the parking area on Poison Creek Grade
Road. We headed west toward our first destination, the Beverly Marie Mine. First we stopped at the Brown Dam Reservoir
in the Strode Basin. One of the worst stretches
of road encountered all day was the steep drop down to the reservoir. A drop of more than a...
Went out to retrieve a trail camera and squeaker, both having been out for several weeks. We had checked the camera twice before and were hoping for more than what had been photographed previously, which was only a couple of rabbits. One of those rabbits is in the photos attached. When reviewing the photos I thought I saw something, an image maybe, a ghost possibly. I knew there was something there in...
1) Zeno Falls Loop & 2) Big Jacks Loop
Buncel Place, Idaho, United States
ATV/Offroading | 126 miles
ATV/Offroading | 126 miles
This atv trip started from the Reynolds Creek T.H. Its hard to declare just where and when it ended. One FatCat and three atvs started the trip, but only two atvs made it back to the trail head. Phase I: Shortly after leaving the parking lot we came across several wild horses in a herd that were not all that wild; unless you actually tried to approach them. Two young studs were mock...
So many times when I'm out exploring and come upon an old homestead or cabin I wonder: Who lived here? What brought them to this place? Where did they go? Why did they leave? What happened to them? What is their story? Many have passed by this old dilapidated cabin without so much as giving it a second thought or look. I dare say many may not have even noticed its existence....
This was the third trip into the Reynolds Creek area in a in three weeks. The trip was made to try to locate mountain sheep. We didn't see any sheep but did see a large number of wild horses and one deer herd. The horses where across Reynolds Creek Canyon at a distance of about two miles. The reason they were spotted was because several of the horses were light colored palominos or paints...
1st Track:Last week, March 3, 2010 Buzz (on his FatCat), Ed and I on ATVs, rode to Reynolds Creek and then hiked up river on the north side for about a mile. This day, March 7, 2010 we were on the south side of Reynolds Creek and up on top and directly across from the prior hiked trail. At the beginning of the first track we attempted to find the exact location of the...
Trapper42 and I decided to explore some new area so we headed out for Jordan Craters near Jordan Valley, Oregon. It was cold and windy this last day of November. My face began to freeze almost immediately and I had thoughts of turning back. Thankfully I found a bandana and trudged on. We did not see anyone else out there this day. I can only guess why. Our first stop was Coffeepot...
There was a break in the February weather so
we headed to Rabbit Creek to explore some country and find a few geocaches.
Ed had been over this country before, but this
specific area was new to me.
We found the first couple geocaches and the weather was starting to warm up. At about the 10 mile point we ran across a
couple of motorcyclist, one of which was repairing his bike. Also ran
into a young...
After unloading the ATVs at a point off of Murphy Flat Road, Ed and I headed out to explore some new country and find a few
geocaches along the way. Our plan was to get the geocache on top of
Sinker Butte (if at all possible), then work our way down to Swan Falls and continue on downriver within the canyon walls of Bird's of
Prey, before heading back to the trailers. As it turned...
Hardtrigger Canyon, Owyhee County, ID 1-19-2010Ed and I trailer the ATVs to the parking lot located just off the end Clark Road. We off loaded the ATVs and took off for Hardtrigger Canyon. After traveling for about a mile, we left the gravel road began encountering mud, having rained the some hours before. We parked the ATVs at the upper end of the canyon and began walking into the canyon. We planned to...
China Ditch, Owyhee County, Winter Trailered the ATVs to the rock rimmed parking lot of Wilson Creek Trailhead, from which Ed and I rode Pigeon Road to China Ditch. It was cold this day. We had to use face masks just to make it tolerable. Once we got to the top end of the ditch, we walked the path on top of the rock embankment along side the ditch within the Reynolds Creek...
