Springtime is fabulous at Sunol Regional Wilderness in the Diablo Range in the East Bay northeast of San Jose and southeast of San Francisco. Wildflower season should take off in the next few weeks. Tree Rock Scramble, which offers an excellent introduction to scrambling, though I got fed up...
Day hike at Las Trampas Regional Wilderness near San Ramon, Califoria in the San Francisco Bay area. Hike described at my Web site.
Uvas Canyon is one of the loveliest locales in the San Francisco Bay Area after a couple weeks of winter rains. I hiked 5.3 miles with 1476 feet of elevation gain over nearly four hours (lots of breaks for pictures and enjoying the scenery). Hike writeup at Two Heel Drive.
A gorgeous day for a walk in the woods, and one of the best places to enjoy it is at Castle Rock State Park off Highway 35 southwest of San Jose. Hike write-up at Two Heel Drive.
I hiked the hard way -- up Horse Heaven Trail -- at Mission Peak Regional Preserve from the Stanford Avenue entrance just off Mission Boulevard in Fremont. I also did this to test my new Garmin eTrex Vista CX unit to see how it would work with my iMac ... it\'s always fun trying to make PC stuff work on a Mac.
