Minuteman Trail Out and Back
by cdimarzio on Jul 19, 2009
Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington, Bedford, Massachusetts, United States
Road biking | 24 miles
It's overcrowded, slow, and has too many street crossings to really be enjoyable, but I do it a couple times a year anyway.   This time, I went out to check on a rental bike for a friend at the end of the trail.

Cambridge, Medford, Stoneham, Reading, Lynnfield, Middleton, Danvers, Peabody, Salem, Massachusetts, United States
Road biking | 34 miles
This was supposed to be Cambridge to Ipswich via Reading, Middleton, and Topsham, but I took a wrong turn in Reading and didn't realize it until too late.  Next time I'll put a couple waypoints into the GPS.
Horn Pond Again

Cambridge, Arlington, Winchester, Woburn, Medford, Somerville, Massachusetts, United States

A variation on the Horn Pond trip that is a little more direct this time.  Returning via S. Boundary Road to get some hill practice.  Cold and cloudy, but no rain.
West Gloucester to Haverhill, MA
by cdimarzio on May 25, 2009
West Gloucester, Massachusetts, United States
Road biking | 39 miles
A good 40 mile ride from one Commuter Rail station to another.  Andy and I did this ride exactly one year after the last Ipswich to Andover ride.   Clear blue skies and great temperatures, with just a bit of a headwind before Newburyport.
Lowell to Winchester
by cdimarzio on Oct 04, 2008
Lowell, Westford, Carlisle, Bedford, Lexington, Arlington, W. Medford, Winchester, Massachusetts, United States
Road biking | 43 miles
A nice sunny cool Saturday ride with Dan and Keri and Kevin. Train to Lowell, and a mix of suburban roads down to West Medford. Arriving early, we decided to ride back up to Winchester. Moving average 11.9 MPH, maximum 32 MPH. Maximum elevation 430 feet on Westford Common. Lunch in Bedford Center at a very bike-friendly sub shop with a park across the street. ...

Horn Pond
by cdimarzio on Sep 21, 2008
Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, Winchester, Woburn, Massachusetts, United States
Road biking | 21 miles
I've been looking at this on the map for a couple years and finally decided to ride out to what turns out to be an unexpected gem.  There are a number of paved and dirt roads that are usable by bicycle.  The area is well maintained, with benches and access to the water around most of the pond.  The lagoon at the northern end is quieter than the main pond.  The causeway...

Providence to N. Kingston via Rail Trail
by cdimarzio on Jul 26, 2008
Rhode Island, United States
Road biking | 50 miles
Trying to find a better route to N. Kingston, RI, from the train at PVD.  This one is a good start.   It's about 2 miles longer than the shortest route, and much more relaxed.  Thanks to Everytrail user, EastonPA, for pointing out the Cranston rail trail, which is also called the Washington Secondary Bike Path on my maps.  It was lightly used, and although suburbia is often just behind a row of...

Plymouth to Provincetown, Massachusetts, United States
Road biking | 97 miles
The annual Cape Cod trip, this year with Andy and Steve G. Train to Plymouth, ride to hostel at Eastham, then on to Provincetown and the fast ferry home. Steve missed the train so we took a leisurely ride to the bridge and he caught up with us at lunch. This was a banner year for weather, with sun and temperatures in the 70's. Total counting...

Plymouth to Quincy, MA by Route 53
by cdimarzio on Jun 22, 2008
Plymouth to Quincy, Massachusetts, United States
Road biking | 28 miles
It seems to me the southside commuter rail schedule has worse headway than last year. It was hard to put together a good trip using any combination of lines at the times we wanted to go. Steve and I took the train to the Plymouth railhead, and rode back to the Red Line Subway station at Quincy. Route 53 is quite nice from Kingston to Hanover. After that, it gets...
