Amasa Back
by mhagen2531 on Sep 06, 2010
Moab, Utah, United States
Mountain biking | 12.9 miles
I rode on this trail with a guide from Rim Tours. It was definitely necessary, since there were so many treacherous sections that it would have been foolish to ride alone. We rode up the main Amasa trail and beat the jeeps to the top. We took a side route out towards the lookout on the actual Amasa Back, at Pothole Arch. For a return route, we rode down Rockstacker, then hooked back into...
Klondike Bluffs
by mhagen2531 on Sep 05, 2010
Moab, Utah, United States
Mountain biking | 16.0 miles
This was my third time riding on this trail. We ended up missing a turn for the main Klondike trail, and ended up on the Baby Steps trail. The ride down the slickrock was so sweet we decided to head up and hit it again. We started at 8a, so the heat wasn't completely unbearable.
Rim Trail, via Nature Trail
by mhagen2531 on Sep 01, 2010
Durango, Colorado, United States
Mountain biking | 5.8 miles
This was my first ride in Durango. I rode up the Nature Trail and hooked into the Rim Trail. You definitely have to be careful on this trail, since it's so narrow, and there are steep dropoffs on several of the sections. I also took the side route down on the Lion's Den trails.
Colorado Trail, Dry Creek, Hoffheins Connect
by mhagen2531 on Sep 03, 2010
Durango, Colorado, United States
Mountain biking | 9.3 miles
For this ride, we rode up Dry Creek, rode across Colorado Trail, then descended Hoffheins Connect. The trail really wasn't too technical, with only a couple sections where the trail was washed out. The descents were pretty amazing, sweeping back and forth in sections, along with some small drops to keep you on your feet. We accessed this trail by driving out 208 off of 160, west of Durango. If you have a...
Hermosa Creek
by mhagen2531 on Sep 02, 2010
Durango, Colorado, United States
Mountain biking | 21 miles
Hermosa Creek is typically ridden as a shuttle ride from the north. However, we decided to ride up from the bottom, then turn around towards the top. This trail was extremely technical in a few sections, including a blazing descent down/hike-a-bike up out of a side valley. Half of our party turned around half way through the ride, to save energy for the return trip. The other half pushed onwards towards the...
Horse Gulch Telegraph Trail System
by mhagen2531 on Sep 01, 2010
Durango, Colorado, United States
Mountain biking | 13.2 miles
This was the first big ride I went on in Durango. I started out at the downtown trailhead, then climbed up to the Meadow Loop trail. From there, I headed up the steep Telegraph Trail. From that point, there were a couple choices. We headed down Sidewinder, to Cowboy, around South Rim, then back up Crites Connect. It's amazing that there's such a wonderful trail system right behind the town. Not too many...

Dale Ball - Central 2
by mhagen2531 on Aug 30, 2010
Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
Mountain biking | 6.1 miles
I ended up going on a couple different legs during this ride.
Cerillos Hike
by mhagen2531 on Aug 28, 2010
Cerillos, New Mexico, United States
Hiking | 4.6 miles
My brother and I went for a quick hike around the Cerillos trail network. There was a rain system on the horizon, so we cut out a couple of the bigger loops. At one point we had to double back on one of the trails to get back to the road quicker. In all though, it was a pretty good hike.
Dale Ball Central
by mhagen2531 on Aug 27, 2010
Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
Mountain biking | 8.0 miles
This was my second ride over at Dale Ball. The terrain at the central set of trails is actually a lot less extreme compared to the southern trails. The grades aren't as steep, and there are fewer rocks on the trail. You can keep your speed up here and maintain a good pace.
Dale Ball South
by mhagen2531 on Aug 26, 2010
Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
Mountain biking | 4.3 miles
This was my first ride in Santa Fe. The local bike shop pointed me towards the Dale Ball trail system. I wasn't sure which half of the trail was which, and I ended up riding on the southern portion of the trail system. The southern trails are definitely much steeper and gravely than the northern portion of the trail. Right out of the gate, you're climbing straight up the hill. There were a couple...
Devil's Gulch Ride 2
by mhagen2531 on Aug 14, 2010
Cashmere, Washington, United States
Mountain biking | 28 miles
We loaded up for the long drive to Cashmere at about 7, then hit the road. The weather forecast called for 90 degrees, but the shade and slight breeze made it tolerable. After the brutal 3600 foot climb to the top, we were in for the descent of a lifetime. It took about an hour and a half to make the descent down the side of the gulch. There were a couple treacherous corners,...
Kachess Ridge - Planning

Mountain biking | 19.0 miles
here's a track for planning purposes.
Galbraith Mountain
by mhagen2531 on Aug 01, 2010
Bellingham, Washington, United States
Mountain biking | 11.3 miles
We cruised up to Bellingham for an afternoon of riding, and Galbraith definitely delivered. Gut-busting climbs, eye-searing descents, and cool weather made this a perfect ride. Although one and a half hours of driving might be a bit much for Seattle riding, it's worth checking out at least once a season. All I can say is I'm jealous of the guys with this in their back yard.
Tolt Macdonald Ride
by mhagen2531 on Jul 31, 2010
Carnation, Washington, United States
Mountain biking | 11.9 miles
I went for a quick afternoon ride with Ken. It had been awhile since I had been here. Additionally, I didn't have a GPS last time around, so I got lost. Having that navigation aid made the difference with enjoying this ride, since it's so easy to get lost up here.
Mt Si Fitness Hike
by mhagen2531 on Jul 29, 2010
North Bend, Washington, United States
Hiking | 3.7 miles
Went for a quick hike with a few friends after work. We were able to make it up and back down before sunset. In all, a great workout!
Black Diamond
by mhagen2531 on Jun 12, 2010
Black Diamond, Washington, United States
Mountain biking | 11.3 miles
This was our 2nd ride over at Black Diamond. If you look on the BBTC website, you should be able to find the maps for the park. This place is almost a rats nest of trails, so it's tough to consistently ride the same route. The best way to orient yourself is to figure out where the mainline trail is. In the northwestern corner is a freeride section. In the southeastern section...
Duthie Hill 2010
by mhagen2531 on Jun 06, 2010
Issaquah, Washington, United States
Mountain biking | 6.0 miles
This was our first visit of the season to Duthie Hill. There was a break in the clouds, so we decided to head out for a ride. The trails were absolutely sloppy! I couldn't decide if the mud was closer to peanut butter or playdoh. They really did a great job on this park! There are stunts for all skill levels. There are several balance beams, a nice set of drops to practice...
Saint Edwards State Park
by mhagen2531 on May 09, 2010
Kenmore, Washington, United States
Mountain biking | 7.2 miles
This is a great ride if you're in the city and can't get out to any of the other trails in the area.
2010 Moab Road Trip - Poison Spider
by mhagen2531 on May 07, 2010
Moab, Utah, United States
Mountain biking | 17.7 miles
No flats, surprisingly enough. This trail was definitely one of the most difficult of our trip. It had a great variety of just about everything that you can find in Moab: gut busting ascents, sand pits, gnarly ledge climbs, and plenty of slickrock. This ride started out with a tortuous climb up a jeep road, with one section with 2-3ft blocks of sandstone to jump up onto. There was one section with...
