Parked on Kinney Rd by the lake. Went SE on Kinney and picked up the unmarked trail and followed that out across Waterloo Valley Rd and across the RR tracks to pink. Went ccw on Pink until the T-intersection by the pipeline. Took a right and took pink out to white and took a right. Followed white all the way up the climb and then bombed down. I did later discover that...
Still a fair amount of snow on the ground in many places (2-3"). But, then there are other spots that are completely bare. Its amazing since Jungle Habitat which is just down the road and in the same town is basically 95% bare.
I went to explore some of the trails around Monksville reservoir to assess them for connecting Jungle Habitat and Ringwood on an MTB. There are a few level trails and some that are more quad trails, but I did not conclude that there is a great loop that is bikable. I did discover substantial trails that are not on the NYNJTC map though.
I wanted to explore the trails down by Sloatsburg Rd west of Cupsaw Lake.
Parked at the end of Johnsontown Rd and took White Bar north up to and past the Dutch Doctor shelter and then split right onto the yellow Triangle trail. Split right off Triangle on the unmarked trail that leads to the American Canoe Association Camp at Lake Sebago. After exploring around the camp a little, I headed out toward 7-Lakes on the access road and then took red TMI trail around the...
Got about 9 miles in before the freehub body on the rear hub failed and the pedals were free-wheeling in both directions. So, I had myself a scooter. I took to the roads and walked/jogged/rolled my way back to parking. The last 1/2 mile the free-while caught again and I was able to pedal again.
Last time I visited Hartshorne, I did not have time to check out Huber Woods. So, this time I decided to ride around Huber first. Its relatively small, so I then rode over to Hartshorne, which is possible with very little pavement involved. Its nice to be able to string together both parks. Here are some links to what appear to be current maps... http://co.monmouth.nj.us/documents/130/hartshorne_update_oct_2012.pdf http://monmouthcountyparks.com/documents/130/huber_trail09.pdf
