A quick winter hike to Briones Peak and Mott Peak, beers afterwards at E.J. Phair. Good times.
One of the Steeper sections of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, I skipped the side trip to Merganser Pond as I was time limited from having to pick up the girls back in Santa Rosa so we could head over to Russian River BC for dinner. Wildlife seen: blue tailed skink, ring neck snake and maybe a fox, small coyote or small bobcat, didn't get a good picture of the latter. It's a...
Our original plans for the weekend were for a mellow family backpack with the girls but when the girls started to bail we changed plans and headed out to the Eastern Sierra. After leaving San Jose at 6am we arrived in Bridgeport at 12pm to pick up our wilderness permits at the ranger station. Unfortunately(or maybe serendipitously) our first choice of the Green Creek trailhead had filled up with 40 people by 8am...

Park in the lower lot as you enter the property, you'll see the temple in the first picture and from there it's pretty easy to figure out where to park. I'm remiss in not recording what should be done at each "station" but there are informational signs to guide you along the way and you quickly realize why buddhists are so mellow and kind as it's a very relaxing area. If I...
A tougher than it looks little hike on a warm day in Big Basin. The day started off badly when the car died on the north escape road with what appeared to be vaporlock. Some people helped us push it out of the way and after 30 minutes or so we were able to push it a little further and into a legal parking spot. We decided to still do the hike...
A nice hike with the gang. Wildflowers are still decent, tons of elegant clarkia blooming right now just above Hacienda parking and on Deep Gulch trail. Saw a really nice King Snake just below English Camp. Good times.
A nice loop up to Willson peak and Rodeo Pond with the exception of Steer Ridge trail which is the suck, 1100' in one mile. Fortunately ROMP is putting in a nicely graded upgrade to the Jim Donnelly trail. Should be fun when it's done.

My first solo backpack trip out to some great and quiet areas during the 2011 Backcountry Weekend at Henry Coe SP.The route starts at Orestimba Corral, to get there you'll need a 4x4 and a camping pass, otherwise you park back at County Line Rd on Kaiser Aetna Rd and grab the shuttle. From the corral take the Alquist trail(one of the best wildflower trails in the Orestimba area) up to County...
