Skyline Ridge, Monte Bello Marathon Run/Hike
by tjiang on Oct 14, 2007
Los Trancos Woods, California, United States
Trail running | 24 miles
My forerunner says this is 26 miles. Everytrail says 27.2 miles before decimation and 24.2 miles after, which leads me to suspect some inaccuracy has crept in. No matter, this felt long. Moving ime was 7 hours. I spent sometime getting water from the creek at Grizzly Flat and at the drinking fountain at Skyline Ridge Nature center. I felt great until Grizzly flat at which point I started...
Bolinas Ridge
by tjiang on Oct 07, 2007
Taylorville (historical), California, United States
Trail running | 12.2 miles
The family camped at Samuel P Taylor State Park (site 31). I started this run in late afternoon at 1600 and hoped to make it to the fireroad that descends down to the reservoir. I turned back because I didn't want to be stuck on the trail after sunset. As it turns out I only had to go maybe another quarter mile after my turnaround to hit the fireroad. Beautiful...

Black Mountain from Rhus Ridge
by tjiang on Sep 23, 2007
Los Altos Hills, California, United States
Trail running | 9.8 miles
This is probably the hardest sustained climb in Silicon Valley area. It's long and steep. They had recently fixed up the fireroad. It's much smoother and the ankle twisting hazards (made up of fist size rocks) on the last half mile near the top are all gone. Recent rains have also settled the dust. And the day was cool. A perfect day for this tough run. I...

Hiking | 28 miles
2 day/1 night fast pack from Zots to Waddell Beach; camped at Slate Creek Trail camp. My Forerunner ran out of battery about 30 miles into trip. I estimated this as approximately 45+ mile trip. My pack weighed eight pounds w/o water which allowed me to do 22 miles per day on about 6 hours of hiking giving me plenty of time to recuperate at the campground. It's...
