Hiking | 4.3 miles
Ok, this was supposed to be a nice leisurely stroll. But it was over two miles out with a good chunk walking through sand dunes. Just a little tough on the feet when you are wearing sandals.About half way out, however, you start hearing the snorts of the elephant seals. It is a deep gutteral sound that moves you to pick up your pace. When you finally see these monsters, it is amazing....

Mountain biking | 18.2 miles
Craig, Dan and I took a ride up through the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park in Aptos. It is a good climb, 2000 ft. in a little over 9 miles.. Craig and Dan were merciful and kept the pace slow as I tried to slog up the hill.

Humbug Mountain

Hiking | 6.0 miles
This was my second summit of Humbug in three attempts. I wrote about my first attempt elsewhere and chronicled my first summit on Fluid Flow. This time I took the west trail which didn't exist in 1966. While the west trail is a little steeper, it provides better views and unsurpassed solitude. Once you get to the southwest side of the mountain, it gets scary silent. All you hear besides your feet...

Creek Clean-up | 2.5 miles
The Friends of Coyote Creek were out for National River Clean-up Week on May 16. 2009. I brought my GPS, camera, and creek savy, to the venture. Even though I was in the largest, most stable boat on the water, fear of dropping the camera into the water limited the number of photos taken. Our boat actually spent most of the day collecting and ferrying trash from other boats to the drop...

Road biking | 16.5 miles
Well, since I usually work at home, I had to go out to "bike to work". I took the camera along so I could get some photography in.

birding | 2.8 miles
Another little birding trip. I heard more birds than I saw. But I did see a new bird, the Common Yellowthroat. Not sure how I had missed it all these years, but I did. The flowers were also good.

Coyote Creek Birding

birding | 2.2 miles
This is the second birdding walk thal I have made on this stretch of Coyote Creek. The first one lasted about ten minutes, but showed enough promise that I wanted to spend a bit more time there. For this trip I walked a little over a mile along the trail, with a bunch of off trail excursions to look out over the creek. The trail is flat, the profile results from a  drop...

Pacheco State Park

Hiking | 6.5 miles
For years, I have been driving over the Pacheco Pass on my way to other locations. Often it was during the spring and I was on my to windsurf on O'neil Forebay. It is usually windy in the spring there. That is something to keep in the back of your mind, since the forebay sits at the bottom of Pacheco Pass.At the top of Pacheco Pass is the relatively new Pacheco State...
