Cycling - Compact fine sand inspires beach rides in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, just south of Myrle Beach. The first part up to the breakwater at Murrels Inlet was into a 30 mph constant wind, which made the way back effortless.
Hiking - A day hike in the Chiusella Valley (Valchiusella) is a good opportunity to see fascinating rock art engravings dating back to the prehistoric age. Many sites are signposted with large white panels along the trail, others - possibly better preserved - are otherwise scattered around but difficult to find without an expert guide. The hike is also an occasion to see an abandoned but well preserved typical alpine township with stone...

Motorcycling - The Assietta Road sems to be quite popular among Germans, as all riders I've met along the road were just Germans. Beautiful high road which, along the Colle delle Finestre, is best enjoyed when the weather allows for amazing landscapes to be seen. I have otherwise experienced clouds and a bit of rain, but today it was the only feasible day to try the route for my friend Orestis visiting...
Motorcycling - The twentieth PmB edition marked the decennial of our group and we wanted to celebrate with a longer tour than the usual weekend-long ride. This cycling tour is currently in the making. If all goes well, wife
& I will go for another European loop formula through pedal-friendly
countries. Considering Germany and Denmark in first place, a study of
the cycling paths network helped to develop an interesting clockwise
itinerary along rivers and the Baltic Sea coast. Start and finish point near Authausen, Saxony. Preview:- 19 stages, 1600+ Km of riding- Mainly riding on cycling paths- Nature...
Hiking - Riserva naturale dei Monti Pelati ("Barren Mounts"). The CAI #751 ridge trail develops across this natural reserve which embraces a geological anomaly. Rocks here are different from those of nearby areas and are rich in magnesium carbonate, its whitish substance can be spotted in several points. The mineral prevents most vegetation from taking root giving this ridge a very particular look and a distinct atmosphere. Shouldn't the eye fall on...
Walking - Relaxed walk from Nice to Villefranche and back. The original plan was to return through Mont Boron but we couldn't find a feasible route or trail, I'm now curious to investigate!
Hiking - Superga. The hill dominating Torino from east has an extensive network of marked trails to be discovered for quiet hikes. This track goes through the Meisino Park - along the Po River - and the woods of the Superga Hill Park (trails No. 29 and 27).The foggy day gave way to a surreal view of the Basilica upon arrival there, with fog timely, gradually vanishing before our eyes to reveal...

Walking - Ouro Preto. This UNESCO World Heritage site had developed to become the most important town of Minas Gerais during the gold rush age, connected to the distant commercial port of Paraty by the Estrada Real. Revolutionary ideas that took shape here didn't go too far and basically ended with the execution of the leader, Tiradentes, on the gallows in the homonym main square. The historical city center hasn't changed much...
Motorcycling - Some twisties on a Saturday through the vineyards without going too far, just to see some friends for lunch.
Hiking - Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos.Located in the southern area of the city of Teresópolis, the Pousada Chamonix was chosen for its walking distance vicinity to the park entrance.Inside the park, visitors are not allowed to venture beyond the Barragem (dike) point unless registered for specific hikes. Most popular is the Travessia Trail to Petropolis which normally requires two overnight stays at cabins (abrigos). Setting the limit to the Barragem...
Walking - Oddly enough, Paraty is the only place I've found around Brazil where the map is inaccurate and doesn't correspond to the recorded track. The satellite view map shows the correct position but other maps (hybrid, map, terrain) show the same offset error I experienced with the Garmin map in my GPS. Funny thing is that I had created a waypoint with Google Maps for the hotel I had reserved and of...
