"Yikes!" is a geocache I have been wanting to hike to for almost 7 years, and I was not disappointed with the challenge and adventure. Most of the hike followed logging roads, with the last 6 or 7 tenths of a mile (horizontal) bushwhack representing at least half of the overall challenge of the entire 8-mile round-trip hike. Call me weird, but I love getting banged and bruised and cut and sweaty and...
It's with a sad and heavy heart that I must report that the best and most scenic hiking and mountain biking trails in the Lebanon, Oregon area are officially closed. I have been riding and hiking these trails for fifteen years, but now it's all over. The new owners have experienced theft and vandalism, and are no longer allowing people onto the property. I had planned on riding and shooting pictures on...
I took a short ride along the "Dikes" trails south of Gill Landing, and a short trail within River Park, north of Gill's Landing. Enjoy!
I have been wanting to explore the area (via geocaching) between Philomath, Florence, and Elmira for a number of years, and today was the day to hit the western portion. The highlight of the trip was a geocache called Maderis' Rest: "Lyman Maderis was a 19yr old from Indiana. He was visiting his father who lived on the coast and was walking from Samuel's cabin over the ridge to a small community where...
Bowers Rock State Park is an undeveloped park that is officially considered "river access." I found the one and only legal overland access point, and am sharing that with you here. I have been hiking and mountain biking at Bowers Rock State Park for a few years, and was happy to find a new trail (see trailhead waypoint) today!Enjoy Bowers Rock State Park!

I took a dual-sport motorcycle ride with my friend today. Actually, there wasn't much "dual-sport" to it, as it was all pavement (for some unknown reason, my friend bought a street bike), but it was a lot of fun nonetheless. We marked a waypoint for a great-looking camp site with a terrific view.
We hitched a ride to Boot Camp, where found a geocache, and then rode for a little while before pushing upward to the top, then rode the Bonzai Trail down.
Pablo Mac and Dude/Sweet placed some challenging geocaches in
preparation for the Geocache Masters component of the 2010 Wild Canyon
Games. For more information visit wildcanyongames.org.
12 SWAMP (Santiam-Willamette Area Mountain Pedalers) got together for a late-winter Saturday morning ride along some rarely-ridden trails along the South Santiam River on the edge of town.
I first saw Wolf
Rock almost exactly 5 years ago, from atop Iron Mountain. From there,
my eyes were fixed on a massive rock monolith with a geocache on top, a
few miles to the south. Since then, I knew I had to answer the call of
Wolf Rock Challenge, and, since it's the 4-year anniversary since the
geocache was found, today was the day.Just
a few feet up the trail, we met our first "Uh-Oh" moment: the...
I had ridden this trail 5 times in the past, but with a 5-year gap since my last ride. We nailed down the date for this year's ride 3 months in advance, and it turned out to be the only rainy day for weeks on either side of The Day. We rode this trail in the rain. It was less than ideal, but you know what they say: a bad day mountain...
