Excellent fall hike around Price Lake and the Boone Fork Loop at Julian Price Park. Get the rest of the story at Two-Heel Drive.

I did the classic Moore's Knob Loop with a diversion around the shore of Hanging Rock Lake. The park is celebrating its 75th anniversary, so I went along to join the festivities. I doubled back through the campground to find the trail and continued the loop. Trip Writeup at Two-Heel Drive.

Day hike along the Appalachian Trail from Carvers Gap to the site of the former Cloudland Hotel.From there I turned left, crossed the parking lot and picked up the Cloudland Trail to Roan High Bluff overlook, which can be spectacular when the weather cooperates. Nice summer hike along the Glen Burney Trail, which has a series of small waterfalls and pretty cascades along a mile and a half south of the city park in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.Trip writeup at Two-Heel Drive.

Excellent hike multiple waterfalls, wildflowers and scenery at Panthertown Valley in far southeaster North Carolina in the Nantahala National Forest. Trip writeup to come.

Out-and-back hike to Cook's Wall at Hanging Rock State Park -- note this hike is 2.3 miles one way (had a GPS unit burp this time out) so this track only shows half of the hike (shows the whole route, however).Trip write-up at Two-Heel Drive.

Nice, easy-to-moderate hiking at Raven Rock State Park southwest of Raleigh, North Carolina. The famous Cape Fear River passes through the park, but there's not much to be fearful of. Trip write-up at Two-Heel Drive.

Nice sampling of the trails available on the Greensboro Watershed, which has mile upon mile of trails along Lake Brandt, Lake HIggins, and Lake Townsend.This hike goes along the Owl's Roost Trail, which has a enough ups and downs to move this outing into moderate territory. This is a gem -- nice trails along High Point City Lake, connected via the Bicentennial Greenway.  Hiking is pretty easy, but there's enough up and down to get a bit of exercise as well. Trip writeup at Two-Heel Drive.

Moist and misty hike at the park northwest of Winston-Salem. This was my first hike to Cook's Wall. It was overcast, windy and rainy up there so I'm not sure I ever actually saw the Wall. Winter after a rain is a cool time to hike up here -- it seems very clean and shiny despite all the leaves having left the trees. Hike writeup at Two-Heel Drive.
