Mountain bike ride in Otay Lakes and Mountain area. Note that the area after the dam was a hike-a-bike section so only for experienced bikers.
A long but enjoyable mountain bike ride today. You start with the 3,500 elevation of the truck trail to the radio towers. You then get the fun of going downhill. The last section is after hitting the dam, we did some hike-a-biking section through the gulley. Recommend only for experienced bikers, just stick to the right side of gulley.
Thought we'd go and find the Truck Trail to the top of Otay Mountain....never thinking that in the rain and mud and construction we'd have a trip way longer than expected!Sharing this trip for some interesting off road aspects...including going through the shooting range!
First time out and friends took me on a "easy" mountain bike ride. Not sure I'd agree this is easy - but I sure learnt a lot from the friends. The uphill section in the middle is switchbacks that are brutal and then downhill is the same. Very hard switchbacks with ruts - so I saw blood here. The rest was beautiful and fun to mountain bike with variety and bumps.

We did 6 checkpoints in 4:40....so the fastest person cleared the remaining 4 in the same time. Impressive! This was meant to be a mixture of hike and bike. I think most of the time we were - hiking with the bike. Many trails were...

Got new mountain bikes and a friend taught us how to ride - but we chose this canyon near work that turned out to not be that easy - we could not find the way back and did not want to tackle that bad-ass hill.so instead we took the 'long' way back on the roads.when we got back - we missed the happy hour by 5 mins. darn!
