Hiking Trails and Trips in United States
Trips
A few weeks ago, I was biking on the bike trail that runs along the 56, when I stopped on a bridge to check out the view of a canyon below. Noticing there was a cool looking trail down there, I marked a waypoint, did my homework on Google Earth and came back today to hike it this morning before it got hot. The hike was an out-and-back from Park Village Road...

Fun, easy hike with some great views. Grabbed some geocaches on the return hike. This hike is described in detail in Jerry Schad's book, Afoot and Afield In San Diego County. Recorded with my Garmin Oregon 450 GPSr.

My wife dropped me off at the park. Encountered a huge rattlesnake. Check out the link below for some fun facts about our cold-blooded friend.

Did this hike in November 2009 with oldest son the week my family rented a cabin in Idyllwild to celebrate my birthday. I've gotta say it's the way to go. I love the outdoors, but I also love a soft bed, hot shower, climate control, kitchen, cable and wi-fi. Been saving my GPS tracks with Garmin MapSource long before I had heard of Everytrail.com. Parked at Humber Park and hiked to trailhead at...
My sister-in-law showed me this hike while on vacation last year. Took oldest son, and 2 of my nephews with me while wife, baby, sister-in-law, and niece took an easier trail and then picked us up at the other parking/trailhead and took us back to the car. Powered off GPS at several points.
From the top of the most western peak, you can catch some great views of Poway and the surrounding peaks in San Diego County. Trail was a little overgrown on the way up, but very well maintained on the way down. From about mile 0.5 to the top, it was some pretty steep elevation gain....more climbing than hiking. Enjoy!
The trailhead used to be alot more lush and forested, but the fires in the recent years really took their toll. It started off cold today, but quickly heated up. Glad we got this one done early. The view was incredible...my camera doesn't do it justice. We signed the peak register at the top, took some pictures and headed back down. As you can see from the pictures, we had our National...

An after work hike. Enjoy!
This was a hike from October 2009 that I found in Jerry Schad's "Afoot & Afield In San Diego County". The gps tracks are just the hike up.
I found out about this trip in Jerry Schad's book, "Afoot And Afield In San Diego County". The creek/falls were flowing very well.
Turned back at creek crossing.

Started at 6:30 am. What a hike! Enjoy.
This is the trip described in Jerry Schad's book Afoot and Afield in San Diego County 2007 edition. Hiked this trail in February 2010. Started from Hilltop Park in Rancho Penasquitos at the Nighthawk trailhead. Pretty good maps at the trailhead. What a workout!!
Took the baby out in the stroller on this extremely scenic and easy trail on a day off from work in early February 2010. Found out about EveryTrail.com listening to a podcast of Podcacher.com. Tracks downloaded from Garmin MapSource. This is my first time using EveryTrail.com, so we will see how this works out.
