Finished lunch in the 12th at a wonderful bistrot. Decided to explore a bit and try this walk. Think it was featured in that Julie Delpy movie.

Sightseeing | 0.6 miles
In Grenoble for work. Some time off. Tram! The tram runs from town up to a fortress that was originally built to defend the the town from attackers. Views are great. It's also possible to ride the tram only one way and walk the other. If I had time I'd have done that, but alas nor for this trip.

My meetings ended early so before eating lunch I took a short walk the Metro stop Boissiere to Place Victor Hugo (to find a brasserie for lunch) and then on to the Arc de Triomphe. A nice way to spend an hour.

Drive from Honfleur to Bruges
by was on Jul 25, 2009
Vron, Picardie, France
Driving | 241 miles
Drive from Honfleur to Bruges. Fairly long road trip. The French autoroutes are fun to drive (if a little expensive). This is interesting/perfunctory so 2 stars. The trip starts out across the Normandy Bridge (from Honfleur to Le Harve.). It is the the largest cable stay bridge in the world.

Bouvet Ladubay - exploring the caves

Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent, Pays de la Loire, France
Sightseeing | 0.1 miles
This one is a bit of an experiment. This track was actually done UNDERGROUND so the GPS readings are a bit bogus. This is a tour of the caves at Bouvet Ladubay. One of the oldest Cremant makers in the Loire Vallee they follow strictly the methode champenoise and in my oinion make a very fine product. Their old caves are carved out of the limestone. No longer used in direct production (their...

Le Mont-Saint-Michel, Basse-Normandie, France
Walking | 3.1 miles
One of the most beautiful spots in France, le Mt St Michel is a marvel of engineering, architecture, and of history. The first construction dates over 1000 years ago, and upon that there are layers and layers of building, though in spots We arrived after a very nice lunch of lamb (which, because they graze on the salty marshes, have a unique taste) in the nearby town. We had to park some way...

Omaha Beach, Basse-Normandie, France
Sightseeing | 28 miles
Combo of driving and sightseeing along Omaha beach.Visit to the American Cemetery at Colville sur Mer was overwhelming at times. We had spent the morning at The Memorial Museum in Caen so we didn't really have enough time, in retrospect. In the future would allow a full day. Since we are staying in Cancale it was a long late drive home.

Short evening Walk in Cancale
by was on Jul 18, 2009
Cancale, Brittany, France
Walking | 2.1 miles
Fairly long drive in the morning, we got to our Gite about 30 minutes early. After a short "souper" we took a walk down to the Port. Being this far west and still on Continental time, the sun sets around 10pm, giving plenty of time for warm evening strolls.

After a short walk in the morning we needed to get some champagne and then so some sightseeing in Reims. We had no trouble finding a producteur who would let us taste and buy a few bottles of delicious champagne

Les Faux de Vezelay
by was on Jul 09, 2009
Verzy, Champagne-Ardenne, France
Walking | 2.0 miles
We're in Champagne for a few days. There is a kind of tree here (unique to this specific spot in France and one other in Russia) where the trees are naturally deformed. The trees are called "Les Faux de Vezelay" after a nearby town. They are beech trees.
