Hiking Trails and Trips
Trips
This was intended to be a nice spring hike. Unfortunately, we must have hit this trail at the absolute worst possible time. The Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island are known for a small biting gnat called "no-see-ums". I have never seen them so bad and so defiant to bug repellant. We ended up turning around half way and when I got back to the car, my arms and legs were COVERED...
A great early-in-the-year hike. Much of the hike is exposed, so the snow tends to melt earlier than on other trails, although in May, there will often be snow still in the canyon. Hiked this with my 5 year old son.
One of my all-time favorite hikes. This hike is well documented so there is nothing more I can add, other than it's a hike everyone should experience once. Hiked it this time with my dad, son (age 9) and daughter (age 8).
I hiked Lone Peak with my 9 year old son and a good friend. We ascended following the Jacob's Ladder trail. While we had read that there was limited/no water July on, we found ample water at the junction (which cuts across to Outlaw Cabin) as well as further up the trail. At about 10k feet, we were heading off the trail to allow my 9 year old to use the "facilities"...
A great hike to the northern peak on Mount Nebo, which is the highest peak on the Wasatch Front (not to be confused with the peak named “North Peak” on Nebo, which you pass on this trail). This is the northern route (there are a few other trails up Nebo, some of which are to the southern peak, which is only 51’ lower than the northern peak and originally thought to be...
A great hike to a spectacular 40' waterfall! The last 25' to the waterfall require you to walk through the river and you will get wet. Water shoes are recommended if you don't want to hike down in wet shoes. Our family hiked this with our kids ages 9, 7, 5, 3 and a 1 year old in our baby backpack.
I imported this track into TOPO! and so I lost the elevation profile. But the starting/ending elevations are accurate as well as the track.I hiked this with my 8 year old son.
One of the great wonders that everyone should see.
We didn't quite make it to the lake but had a great hike.
A great short hike for kids. Hiked this with our 4 kids.
Hiked 3 miles up the Lone Peak trail (the peak is much further) from the Orson Smith trailhead (also known as the Bear Canyon trail or Cherry Canyon Logging Trail) with my 5 year old son. A pretty steep trail, with an altitude gain of 715 feet per mile.
I did this hike with my two boys (ages 5 and 8). Pretty strenuous for young ones but they did great! We made it to the saddle, a bit shy of the summit.
A wonderful afternoon hike. Our 4 kids (ages 3 to 8) hiked the entire trail so it took us a bit longer than normal. A beautiful view at the top overlooking the Uinta's.
