First effort to get to Wadi Hoff and back. Forgot to switch off my GPS after reaching the entrance gate so the last 2k or so are in a taxi. The aim was to make it back, get a better feel for the land and be able to relate the route I did to the google terrain info that one gets with everytrail. So here you go. Biggest mistake was not to get...
Another proof of my very deficient sense of direction. Last time in Dahab, about a month ago, Marjan and I accompanied our friend Emily on a climbing outing to Wadi Qnai El Rayan. This time round I wanted to run that beautiful wadi and find a nice circular route back to Dahab including the Wadi connection. I took a Wadi too early from the main road, first coming to an area with a...
Spent a couple of days in Dahab and did a walk down Wadi Qnai El Rayan (no track) and, the day after, a run from our guest house (Marine Garden Bedouin Camp just beyond Lighthouse) along the sea to the road out toward the Blue Hole, crossing over to enter a wadi at the other side that my freediving instructor Steve Keelan had pointed out to me, to climb an easy gradient...
First time a longer desert run. Took a taxi to the entrance of the Wadi Degla sports club, ran from there to the national park entrance, soon after up the North ridge and mostly via MTB trails until the end. The gorge narrows into a dead end, but the wadi actually continues, although the valley widens and the ridges North and South are much lower. Ran back via the valley floor that...
Marjan's school joined a charity run organized by the Cairo American College, an international school located in Maadi, with 80% American pupils. The course was set on the South rim of Wadi Degla. We accessed bypassing the park entrance via a sort of garbage dumping area South of it. I opted for the longest distance, 10k, two loops of 5k. Nice course, like always went out way too fast and thus found...
By way of my farewell to the Nepali trails, Raj, Narayan, Richard, Paul, Thomas and myself decided on a weekend going South. Friday afternoon in Raj' car to Benighat for a tented overnight at the Big Fig. Really nice location on the Trisuli river about 75k outside Kathmandu. The only downer was that the highway at the other side give the place a bit a feel of a restaurant along the Autobahn....
Paul needed to reccie the route of his students going on a trek next week. Thomas and myself accompanied him for the first part of that reccie. Starting South of Thankot on the way towards Chitlang Bhanjyang it was still known terrain. It's a jeep road up to the pass, but one can do quite a bit of it on the old trail short cutting the new road. The road has some...
A weekend on central Nepal's jeep roads and trails organized by Raj and Sasha. It's a route for which it is a great boon to have a support vehicle, but it could be done relying on local transport. However, the way we did it made it much easier because vehicle support meant we only needed to carry what was actually needed during the run itself. We started off with seven runners, four...
The three of us had a weekend only but still wanted to get into alpine terrain. What to do? The region nearest to Kathmandu, the lakes of Gosainkunda are the obvious choice, and were new terrain for all of us (I had visited Gosainkunda proper once, 30 years ago but never seen either the Laurebina La (pass) or the higher lakes). So Paul, Thomas and myself left from the British school around 3PM...

Yesterday, Raj, Richard and myself went out for a short exploration of unknown Shivapuri trails. That was quite successful, although we lost our way a couple of times and Raj put the track up here:http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1487273&code=9e72cf666c6b627abc550215c61e1fd5 The reason why I mention it is because I wore my five fingers, hit a toe and started today's exploration with Paul and Henk with a painful toe. I ended it with something looking very blue and I...
The track as shown combines two runs that Raj did on Sunday the 28th. I joined the morning run and that is what I'm describing here. We (Raj, Paul, John, Unpendra and myself) went from his home (first kilometer not shown as the GPS hadn't picked up satellites yet) via Ramkot danda (ridge) and Naikap gomba(monastery) to the Dhading side and via a trail already explored back to the valley rim, the...
For those who live up North: a nice 20k route doing the Shivapuri foot hills. Track is by Peter from a run with Richard.
The plan for today was to explore some new trails around Pulchowki, do a fair bit of altitude meters, and if possible and/or we feel like it, a lot of kilometers. The latter didn't happen but the trails we did were fabulous, we had great mountain views from Pulchowki, and although we walked more than we ran, all of us, Narayan, Upendra and myself (Paul unfortunately ill) had a great day out.From...

Biggest group ever to join us on a trail run: Peter, Raj, Narayan, Miki, Sarah, Pawan, Ritish, Umesh, Hari (yes the famous Hari Roka, a good friend of fellow Jumli Narayan), Paul and myself. The first 16-17k were city, upto Kopan. Lots of slums along the Bagmati (although they seem to be cleared fast for the river road), and Pashupatinath and Bauddha (with the great sel roti place for breakfast). We all stayed together...

A shorter circuit from where I live that still has enough trail to be really enjoyable. The track is from Peter's GPS, my running partner for this afternoon outing. Surprisingly, given its closeness to my house, we managed to hit some some new terrain. Decided to take the water treatment area back alleys to Nakhu bridge and from there the normal route to Sano Kokhana, Kokhana and the Bagmati bridge below Bungamati....
This is actually Miki's track (and her photo's) so you can also find it here: http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1372629We were five, Miki, Raj (who has his track here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/131141267#)Sarah, Pawan and myself. I had done this area from my house with Peter before:http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1129879But the Chauni-Chauni circuit is a great, actually better way to explore this area. The small allies in the Chauni area are traffic free, you cross the ring road and very quickly after that can...

The track and pictures are Peter's. That's why it starts near his house close to Bhatbhateni super market, and ends at Chabahil. We ran together from Kopan to Kopan (marked on the map), we being Raj, Upendra, Ritish, Narayan, Pawan, Peter and myself. The length of the run was 25k.The run basically connected known trails but made for a nice half day circuit run from Kopan monastery above Bauddha. The combination of...
Peter, me, and Upendra did this recce over three days. On the 8th we drove to Pokhara, met up with Upendra, took a taxi from Halanchowk (lakeside - the actual starting place will be within a couple of hundred meters of this crossing) to Hyangya where the route leaves the main road and did the route until Pitam Deurali. The next day we did Landruk-Ghandruk-Kimrong danda-Jinu-Chomrong-Tadapani. And the last day the rest.It...
