What GPS devices do you recommend?
In general, a GPS devices by one of the leading manufacturers Garmin and Magellan will work well for tracking your outdoor activities. One important feature to look for is WAAS, which improves the accuracy of the device.
The EveryTrail GPS connector works with most Garmin devices. We are working on connecting to other brands as well. Magellan devices are the next ones on our list. Currently we have tested our Connector with most devices (etrex, etrex legend, and forerunner). Please drop us a line if you have trouble connecting your device (support@everytrail.com).
What is GPS anyway?
GPS stands for Global Positioning System. The system consists of 24 satellites that orbit the Earth and send out signals that can be picked-up by receivers (called GPS devices). GPS devices can pinpoint exactly where they are once they pick-up signals of at least 4 satellites at the same time.
Recent innovations in GPS technology have made the system increasingly precise and reliable. GPS devices equipped with the WAAS system are now accurate within 6 foot / 2 meters, which makes GPS devices excellent tools for tracking and visualizing your travel activities.
