Overview:
Part of the Munda Biddi Trail network, this 63km signposted loop is long but far from technical. A pleasant day out cycling.
Getting There:
There are a number of places where the Waterous Loop crosses public roads. Maybe the easiest place to access the trail is at Lake Navarino Caravan Park. The caravan park is signposted from Waroona on the South Western Highway, 112km south of Perth.
Another option would be to stay at the beautiful camp area at Nanga
Route Directions:
The route is very well signposted with orange Waterous Loop markers, similar to the blue and yellow ones used on the Munda Biddi Trail. In addition a map to accompany the trail is available from the Munda Biddi Foundation and most good bike shops and outdoors shops in Perth.
The ride is very similar in either the clockwise or anti-clockwise direction due to the gradual gradient of the hills. There aren't really any options to shorten the route but it would be possible to ride it over two very leaisurely days staying at either Lake Navarino caravan park, Nanga camp ground or the Munda Biddi shelter at Bidjar Ngoulin.
Local Facilities:
Toilets: Lake Navarino caravan park, Bidjar Ngoulin
Drinking water: Lake Navarino Forest Resort and at Bidjar Ngoulin there is rainwater collection
Bike shop: No
Cafe/shops: Lake Navarino Forest Resort
Others: Beautiful basic campground by the river at Nanga. Munda Biddi camp shelter with toilet, rainwater collection and picnic tables at Bidjar Ngoulin
Mobile phone reception:
If using the free version of the EveryTrail app you will need continuous mobile coverage. Reception on the Waterous Loop varies from good to none on all 3 major networks.
Lake Navarino Forest Resort (caravan park) is another possible overnight stay in the area and also the easiest place to access the trail, only be a short distance from Waroona on the SW highway.
This large and pleasant DEC campground is right next to the river. This would make a good starting point if camping in the area or as an overnight stay halfway round if splitting the ride over 2 days.
Ditch your bike and take a short scramble up to the magnificent King Jarrah tree which is located a short way off the Waterous loop on the King Jarrah trail.
Just south of Willowdale Rd, the Munda Biddi leaves the Waterous Loop and heads south towards Lake Brockman. The Waterous loop turns slowly north back towards Lake Navarino.
