Duration: 1 hour or less

Overview: This terrace of geothermal pools are a welcome stop along the North Umpqua trail for mountain bikers and hikers. They are also easily accessible from the road as this guide shows via the new bridge erected over the river in 2010. I wish I had a photograph of the pools themselves (you can see a little bit of the hut in the guide photo) but cameras are discouraged in the area (out of respect) because clothing is optional at the pools and I've never been there.

Tips: Driving Directions:
From exit 125 off I-5 in Roseburg, OR head east on Highway 99 which will take you to Highway 138. Head east on 138 and turn left on Toketee-Rigdon Road (Forest Service Road 34) between mile markers 58 and 59 on Highway 138. Take this road to Forest Service Road 3401 2.4 miles down the road which you will take a right onto. Follow this road 2 miles to the parking lot on the left. There is no fee to park here.

Bridge over the Umpqua River

Take some photos from this beautiful bridge. This bridge was constructed in 2010 and is 6 feet wide! When I was here in 2006 I had to ford the river and then climb up the steep bank on the other side (see photo) to the hot springs with my bike on my back (we were doing the North Umpqua Trail (another one of my guides).

Umpqua Hot Springs

Over the years people have built up the two original pools into a terrace of pools on the hillside that progressively become cooler as the water cascades down. You will probably be among some nude people as clothing is optional at these springs. You will probably see some marijuana use too as you are deep in the Pacific Northwest so if you are offended by either I would not suggest soaking in these pools.
