Overview: Turner Park is nicknamed the "Riverside Playground." A quick walk around this park and you will soon know why it is a favourite of residents and tourists alike.

Turner Park is named after Dr. G.H. Turner, a doctor who settled here in the early 1900's. Not only a doctor, but a botanist, Dr. Turner identified, categorized and named over 10,000 different plants in the area. He donated his entire collection to the University of Alberta Herbarium for conservation.

For this walk, park on 103rd ave to take advantage of one of the community access points the City provides to its residents. There is ample parking in Turner Park as well. The paved path down to Turner Park is in great shape with well marked trail markers. The trail system is very popular with walkers, joggers and bikers.

Entering Turner Park from the east, you will be surrounded by a pleasant stand of trees where, if you're lucky, maybe you will spot a deer or two. Following the path, you will see the campgrounds on your right followed by the ball diamonds. Further on, you will see why Turner Park is a great family park as you pass multiple picnic sites and play areas for the kids. You will walk past a large open area before turning the corner by the main entrance.

Close by, you can cross the street and walk to a great lookout out point facing the North Saskatchewan River and just to the right of that is Strachan's Landing Boat launch for canoes and kayaks. This boat launch was a joint project by the City, the River Valley Alliance, Capital health and the Alberta Lottery Fund.

Carrying on, you will walk beside the fenced activity fields and the public campground. The campground has full time hosts to help get you settled between the months of May and October. As you turn the corner and walk back up the path towards 103 ave, you will pass many of the friendly residents that live in the area. Be sure to say hello!

Tips: -Bring some water
