Family Friendly
Overview:
Many folk venture to the jewel of Northern California with visions of hiking pristine lakes and unspoiled wilderness, yet rarely break away from the shores, stores and casinos of Lake Tahoe to enjoy what's truly magnificent about the area.
This Trailspotting Guide to family friendly hiking features several great trails within driving distance of Lake Tahoe and its many attractions. We direct you to the trailheads, then transport you through evergreen forests to clear-blue alpine lakes, huge waterfalls and beginner snowshoe routes.
Tips:
• Particularly in early summer insects can be plentiful around the lakes, so be sure to pack the bug spray as well as the sunscreen.
• Lake Tahoe is elevated over a mile above sea level - 6225ft to be exact, and our hikes take you even higher. To avoid any ill-effects we recommend that you drink plenty of water and carry your preferred headache medicine just in case.
• These trails are best hiked between June and November, depending the severity and timing of winter seasons. In June snow will be present at higher elevations, though it's unlikely to impede your hiking unless the area had an exceptionally wet winder season. However, use your best discretion to remain safe, and if in doubt be prepared to turn around.
