Overview: Toroni’s main beach of thick yellow sand is considered to be one of the best in Sithonia, the second peninsula of Chalkidiki, Greece. This hike enables you both to experience a fine Toroni beach and escape from the crowded area of the main beach. You may spend your time also on a secluded beach, just beyond the south of Toroni and explore the Toroni seacoast a bit.

The easy round trip from Toroni lifeguard tower to the secluded beach of Toroni is about 3 km, gaining 70 m in elevation.

Basically, the hike can be divided into sections as follows: from the Toroni lifeguard tower to the Harbor, from the Harbor to the Viewpoint, from the Viewpoint to the Hidden Beach. It generally takes 4-5 hours for average hikers to complete the round trip, allotting by far most of the time for spending on the beach.

Tips: Alternatives. Should you arrive by car, drive up and park at Toroni harbor and make it your trailhead (the round trip is about 2 km). After the end of the trip, drive up to the nearby Porto Koufos to taste famous fish culinary dishes.

While sitting on the Toroni’s main beach and if time allows, try to watch the sunset – it is a real experience.

Pay close attention to GPS advice as the trail is unmarked and there are many bushy forks with blind diversions in the final leg.

What to bring:
Sunscreen: much of this hike is unshaded.
Snacks and enough water.
Second-class outfit especially for the final trail leg as it is a bit bushy and thorny.

Points of Interest

map

Lifeguard Tower

The trailhead is located at Toroni lifeguard tower or at the local hotel Basil which lies directly behind it on the other side of the Toroni main road.

The next main POI is about 500 m distant. Start off alongside the long main Toroni beach heading southward in direction to the fortress ruins. While hiking, observe the main Toroni beach which is everywhere of superior quality. Some say that it even surpasses the fantastic beach of Sarti.

Harbor

Toroni does not have a typical harbor. We call the harbor the area where the boats are concentrated. Large boats come to Toroni rarely - if you are lucky you may glimpse one of them also during this hike.

The next POI is about 550 m distant. First, continue towards the fortress ruins, then pass it and follow a dusty unpaved trail slightly uphill along the coast. The trail will become narrower. Then turn right a bit downward till you get to the place from which you can admire another bay.
Viewpoint

Viewpoint

While standing on the end of the hillock above the seashore and looking at the bay, try to locate a beach on the other end of the bay. Pause for a while, enjoying the beauty of this little wilderness.

The next POI is about 610 m distant. Following the bushy trail, hike along the coast till you come to the final POI. There are bushy forks and it is not always obvious which path to take as it is overgrown in many places. When in doubt, follow the GPS track. Sometimes pause for a while, turn back and enjoy beautiful vistas of Toroni.

Hidden Beach

Now you are in your final destination. The secluded beach is covered largely by seaweed and may be littered by empty plastic bottles. A little tidying up at the place of your choice transforms it so that you may feel comfortably there. Otherwise, water, sand and water access are fine.

Stay on this beach as long as you like and then return back, basically following the same trail. Spend the rest of your time on the Toroni main beach, possibly enjoying the beautiful sunset.

Fortress Ruins

The fortress (also known as the Lecythus fort) was rebuilt during the Byzantine era.
