This tour cover highlights inside the Jardim Botanico of Rio. The gardens are huge, so do plan on spending some time there. You can wonder though at your leisure, or you can join a guided tour which will give you much more background/history on the garden and the plants there.

Jardim Botanico

Dom João VI, by royal decree, ordered the creation of this botanic garden in 1808. About 5000 tropical species are on view, including a beautiful orchid museum. Do not miss the Amazon section, with a 1km long walk way bordered with giant palm trees and stunning large Vitoria Regia water lilies.

You can try to book a guided tour if you want to get more insight in the botanic garden.

Sloth and Toucans

Pay attention, you may observe sloth and toucans in the highest trees. While the Toucans are easier to spot with their bright colors, you'll have to hunt to see the sloth.

Palm Trees Avenue

A quiet and majestic place, bulk of these palm trees are more than 100 years old! You can roughly estimate their age by counting the vertical arches, about one per year.
