Overview: This guide is a hike from Stinson to the East Peak of Mt. Tam via the Matt Davis Trail with a bike ride down the fire road and Panoramic Highway. There is a place to store the bikes up at the East Peak parking lot and lock them up to the bike racks. There is a wide variety of ways to hike up from Stinson and also to come back down. This guide shows one of the many possible ways. The Matt Davis trail for the first two to three miles is very lush following a creek up the mountain with many small waterfalls. This part is one of the nicer hikes in Marin even though it is steep. Most of the climbing is done during the first three to four miles after that there are some small ups and downs.

Parking and Trailhead

Park a long the street or you could park down at the beach park and walk up here. The Trailhead has a sign and small bridge.

Short cut

Here the recommended route is to follow the trail to the Pan Toll Ranger Station and then travel up the road, but this guide shows a cross country route which is a little bit of a short-cut.

Northside Trail

There is a trail called the Northside Trail that turns off from the fire road up some stairs. This is the best way up to East Peak from here.

East Peak and the Parking lot.

There is a rack here to store bikes while hiking up. The East Peak also offers a great view of the bay area on a clear day.
