Overview: This is a very easy climb up Slide Mountain in the Catskills. Like other summits in the Catskills the top is wooded but there is an overlook near the top that offers great views over the surrounding hills. You'll also pass through very distinct forest stands on the way to the top (look at the mountain in satellite view to see what I mean). I did this easily in an afternoon and had great views from near the top at sunset.

Tips: Directions to Slide Mountain Trailhead:
Take Exit 19 off I-87 and follow 28 west for 31 miles before making a left onto State Road 47 near the town of Big Indian. Follow this road for about 8 miles up a valley and past the first trailhead that leads to Giant Ledge. Go around the next turn and you will see the trailhead parking area for Slide Mountain. No fees to park here.
From 28 head west make left on state road 47 which is located in the town of Big Indian.

Slide Mountain Summit

At 4,180 feet you are at the top of Slide Mountain in the Catskills. The summit has an open clearing but if you backtrack down the trail a short ways you'll see a short side trail for an overlook with great views over the surrounding Catskills.
