Overview: This short trip sees minimal traffic. Great views once you get above the trees. Short walk to abandoned, historic lookout station once used to spot fires along railroad that can be seen below. Located in Tahoe National Forest. Rating:

Difficult. Narrow, steep road with tight brush and a very tippy rock challenge. Subject to washouts. Not for stock SUVs.

Start Here

Go through parking lot with vault toilet and bear right on steep rough road. Left under power lines goes to Fordyce Creek, route of the amazing Sierra Trek event, usually held in August.

Gets Tough

Bear right across open area and begin rocky climb. This is toughest part of trail. Rollovers have occurred here, so be careful.

Summit

Walk downhill to the right to see abondoned historic lookout station, once used to spot fires for the railroad that can be seen below. Left are commercial cell towers. From here, follow good road down other side of peak.

Intersect Fordyce Lake Road

Turn right at Fordyce Lake Road to return to Interstate 80. Left here is the early exit route, called the "Committee Trail," used by Sierra Trek volunteers. During the Sierra Trek, it's the fastest way down the mountain for emergency purposes.
