Overview: From high-end fashion and discounted home products to pop culture memorabilia and goofy gifts for those back home, there is no shortage of things to buy and places to shop when you visit Las Vegas.

Many hotels along the Las Vegas Strip offer at least a few stores to poke through, and several of the high-end resorts have a small smattering of one-of-a-kind boutiques featuring clothing, shoes and accessories. This walking tour, which includes a variety of shopping experiences, suggests some of the highlights along Las Vegas Boulevard.

Tips: Shoppers won't necessarily find great deals when they shop in Las Vegas (especially given the 8.1 percent sales tax), but they will find a wealth of mainstream and specialty stores. If there's something in particular you'd like to buy, or there's a certain brand you can't find at home, chances are you can find it for sale in Las Vegas. The incredible array of options really is the best reason to shop during your Las Vegas vacation.

Fashion Show Mall

Start your shopping excursion at the Fashion Show Mall, which is located toward the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, north of Treasure Island (TI). This is the only space on the Strip that is specifically designated as a stand-alone shopping mall. It is Las Vegas' largest shopping destination with seven department stores and more than 200 other retailers. Highlights include a Saks Fifth Avenue, Macys, Bloomingdale's and a massive Forever 21.

If you visit during the weekend, stick around long enough to catch a live fashion show. The runway is located in the middle of the mall, and shows often feature fashions from anchor stores. Specialty events, such as high school fashion design contests, take place here as well.

The Shoppes at the Palazzo

With all the pomp and circumstance that surround the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian (the next stop on our tour), many people don't think to venture just a bit farther into the Shoppes at the Palazzo.

The first thing you'll probably notice is that it's markedly quieter here compared to the Venetian. The Shoppes at the Palazzo are geared toward the high-end buyer, and many of them are exclusive to Las Vegas. One of the standout shops that is fun to look through (though few people actually buy) is Bauman Rare Books, which is considered to be one of the best rare bookstores in the United States.

The Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian

The Venetian is not only one of the largest hotels in the world, it also offers unparalleled shopping opportunities in the Grand Canal Shoppes. This Venetian-inspired shopping area features cobblestone pathways and high sky ceilings as well as the winding Grand Canal complete with floating gondolas. You'll find many stores and boutiques, such as Sephora, Kenneth Cole and Dooney & Bourke.

Take your time as you wander through the Grand Canal Shoppes; in addition to the stores, there are several live statues and performers scattered throughout St. Mark's Square and the rest of the shopping area.

Forum Shops at Caesars Palace

Just as the Grand Canal Shoppes exude the personality of the resort they're housed in, the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace have an atmosphere that goes above and beyond the standard mall. With more than 160 shops spanning three stories, the Forum Shops are both classy and accessible. Highlights include the largest H&M store in the United States and numerous stores that specialize in accessories.

Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood

Some of the shopping options in Las Vegas can be a bit exclusive, but the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood really are for the everyman.

This fun and high-energy mall is packed with brands people know and trust from their hometowns, such as Urban Outfitters, GAP, American Apparel and Lucky Brand Jeans. Within the Miracle Mile there are also a few galleries, theaters, restaurants and a tattoo parlor.

If you have some time to spare, stop by Test America to preview upcoming media in return for cash.

Crystals at CityCenter

This upscale shopping area is worth a look even if you don't plan on making a purchase. In addition to a collection of high-end retailers, including Tiffany & Co., Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, CityCenter has some evocative artwork sprawled throughout the lower level and gallery row, which is located across the bridge near Gucci, and features several world-renowned artists. If you're a fan of Cirque du Soleil, make sure you stop by the gallery showcasing work by Richard MacDonald.
