Overview: The Shermans Creek is a lazy meandering tributary of the mighty Susquehanna river. Slowly winding around mountains, and fertile farmlands. This trip will put you in the shadows of the historic Dellville covered bridge. You will float at the base of mountains and thru somewhat deep pools until you reach the fields. You will also encounter a bridge to navigate under, and some gentle shelves just above the second of two newly built Dellville Road bridges. The Shermans Creek is a true hidden gem, as you can only float on its waters at certain times. Best times are early spring with snowmelt, and high water. It can be done after certain rains, but not to be done while near or at flood stage.

Tips: Boat, PFD, Paddle, Be Safe!!!

Dellville Covered bridge

The wonderful Dellville covered bridge crosses the Shermans creek in Wheatfield Twp. Perry County PA. Built in 1810, then rebuilt in 1973 after the flood of 1972. In the mid 2000's a new concreate bridge was built just west of the covered bridge. Now the main flow of traffic uses the new bridge. There is still public access to the covered bridge, you actually have to cross the covered bridge to reach the paved parking lot, and boat launch.

Base of the mountain turn

This majestic area at the base of the mountain creates a hard left turn in a deep pool. There may be a few rocks to contend with, but you should do fine.

Lazy float

Hardly any current in this slow part of the creek. This area has its deep pools also. I once saw a bald eagle is this area. Take your time here and take in the sights.

1 of 2 Dellville Road bridges

First of the two newly built Dellville Road bridges. There was a log jam at the middle pier for the longest time, but it has since been removed. There are 3 large rocks just above the middle pier in the bridge. Stay left as you approach the bridge.

Welcome to Haas Drive & the Second Dellville Road bridge. You will want to exit creek left just before the bridge.
