Overview: The Shellburg Falls Recreation Area is located near Lyons, Oregon in the Santiam State Forest and is managed by the Oregon Department of Forestry. It offers a peaceful, secluded recreational experience. Whether you enjoy camping, hiking, mountain biking, equestrian riding or simply exploring nature, you’ll find many things to do and see.

It is an easy in difficulty trail that winds its way through giant Douglas-fir and Hemlock trees and under the
Shellburg Falls.

There is also a small campground nearby, facilities include picnic tables, fire rings with barbeque grills and restroom facilities. Currently there are four campsites available which are first come first serve. For visitors wanting to escape the crowds and enjoy a quiet camping trip this is an excellent location.

Tips: From Salem drive 25 miles east to Lyons, Oregon. Once reaching Lyons take Fern Ridge Road northbound and drive 1.2 miles. Drive until you reach a yellow gate on the east side of the road, an information sign is located near the yellow gate. Vehicles may be parked in the space near the gate. Please make sure the gate is not blocked so that fire and emergency vehicles will have access.

Be careful at Stassel Falls with young kids.

Turn uphill here to continue to Shellburg Falls. Continue straight to head towards Stassel Falls.

Shellburg Falls Campground

This secluded campground is a hidden gem. It is well maintained and offers restrooms, a hand pump well, picnic tables, designated fire rings, trash service as well as a picnic shelter.

To get here by car:
From Salem take Highway 22 eastbound 22 miles to Lyons, OR. Turn Left (North) onto Wagner Road, stay right and drive 2.5 miles. Pavement becomes gravel.Arrive at 4-way intersection, drive straight(North), Wagner Road becomes Ayers Creek Road. Drive 1 mile and turn left (West) onto AC 100 Road. Stay on AC 100 Road. Drive 2.8 miles and turn left (West) at Orange Gate onto
Shellburg Road. Drive 2.6 miles to Shellburg Campground.

Trail Junction

Turn east here to head to Stassel Falls. Turn west down the road to head back towards the trailhead.

Shelburg Falls is one of my favorite places to hike. You will see very little other hikers or non at all, and that's what I like about it. It's quite and peaceful. I like meditating on the huge boulder overlooking the lower part of the falls. I've actually taken a nap on it. LOL
