Overview: On this hike you will climb 3 more ADK 46er peaks. These peaks do not have maintained trails to their summits so you will need to follow the gps track in this guide carefully to follow the herd paths. You will leave Upper Works and follow a trail to Bradley Pond before heading off on the herd paths. When you get up to the ridge you'll be at a 4-way intersection called "Times Square" from here you can choose which peaks to climb first but I would suggest going for the most distant, Couchsachraga first, so that if you need to come back it will be a shorter trip. Make sure you give yourself a full day by starting early for this hike.

Tips: Directions to trailhead:
Take exit 29 off of I-87 and follow Rte 2 west for 17 miles to an intersection with a sign for "National Lead". Turn right here and follow the road for 6.3 miles to turn onto Upper Works Trail. At 8.2 miles from the sign for National Lead you'll see a turn-off for parking for the Santanoni Range. There are no fees to park here.

Herdpath up Santanoni Range

Here you will depart from the Bradley Pond Trail and start up on the herdpath up the Santanonis. Use the guide track to find where the herdpath begins on the western side of Bradley Pond. Look for the herdpath leaving from a beaver dam several hundred yards from the Bradley Pond lean-to.

Times Square

This 4-way intersection is called "Times Square" heading north will take you to Panther, South to Santanoni and straight ahead to Couchsachraga. It doesn't matter which one you do first but perhaps you should try for Couchsachraga to get the furthest one out of the way first if you need to make a return trip due to running out of daylight.

Summit of Couchsachraga

At 3,793 feet somebody really screwed up with the survey long ago when the 46 4,000 foot peaks were determined because this one is over 200 feet below that level! Yet, Couchsachraga is still considered to be on of the 46 peaks although for some reason MacNaughton at 3,983 feet is not on the list! In fact, there are 15 non-46er peaks that are taller than "couchie". Although the summmit is wooded there are some views back towards the range.
