Overview: In the winter time the Peter Ogden trailhead is the furthest the road to Paulina Lake is plowed (mostly for snowmobile use). From this trailhead you'll head through the woods for almost 3 miles to the 60 foot beautiful waterfall. I've included some photos of my friends and I ice climbing the falls but this should only be attempted if you have experience as it can be very dangerous. If you have time continue on up the trail just a little further to check out the outlet of Paulina Lake.

Tips: Directions:
22 miles south of Bend on U.S. 97 take a left onto Service Road 21 following signs towards Paulina Lake. Follow this road until you see signs for the Peter Ogden trailhead or you come to a closed gate and unplowed road beyond (which should be the same place).

Peter Ogden Trailhead

This is usually the last point that the road is plowed to in the winter. You have your choice of cross-country skiing up the Paulina Lake Road or following the track in this guide through the woods along Paulina Creek to the falls. In the summer time you can drive up the road to the parking area directly next to the falls. There are lots of snowmobile trails in this area so make sure you follow the track trough the woods as you travel on to them then off of them sporatically.

Paulina Falls

This 60 foot falls is beautiful in the winter time as it is lined with ice. I've been ice climbing on it but you must wait for really cold weather to try this (the orange section of ice I've colored in one of the photos broke off on one of my friends = dangerous). Make sure to get some photos from all the viewpoints of the falls.
