Overview: This is an easy mountain as it is only 4 miles from a main highway through Grafton Notch. It is part of the Mahoosuc Range. I did it in the winter with snowshoes and crampons. You'll want the crampons as the trail is very steep in places and gets icy. There is an old firetower on top that may or may not be accessible to climb.

Tips: Grafton Notch Trailhead:
Follow Rt 2 east from Bethel for 6 miles to Newry. Take a left onto ME-26 and follow it 12 miles to the Grafton Notch State Park. Look for the AT parking area on teh left side of the road that will take you up Old Speck.

Parking is free and no permits are required.
