Among the collection, you may enjoy Chinese earthenware like pottery, porcelain, as well as bronze, jade ware, sculpture, embroidery, calligraphy and paintings, each piece is a true curio. For having been renowned for its abundance and artistic value world widely, the collection at the National Palace Museum is one of the main attractions to a considerable number of visitors every day.

The Shilin night market gathers snacks from all over Taiwan. Everything is here, including such famous delicacies as knife-sliced noodles, pork kidney soup, oyster omelet, Kaohsiung meat balls, little-cake-in-big-cake, Shilin sausages, tomatoes in ginger juice, Dongshan duck heads, frogs-laying-eggs, stir-fried squid, and chili-sauce dumplings, making it a great stop for food, and shopping.


Tips: This tour is best done in the afternoon, start at the National Palace Museum, and finish it in the evening for dinner and some shopping at the Shilin Night Market.

For public transportation from Taipei, take the MRT from Taipei station to Shilin Station, transfer Taipei City Bus(No. Red 30) to National Palace Museum stop.

Shilin Night Market is the one of the largest night markets in Taipei. The market is centered on Yangming Theater and Cicheng Temple. The night market is formed by many prosperous shops on Wenlin Road, Dadong Road and Danan Road, etc. Among them, Shilin Market was built as early as in 1899 and the market is famous for various snacks and eatery. Many visitors have come to Shilin Night Market to enjoy the delicious foods, such as large pancake enfolding small pancake, hot pot on stone or Shilin sausage. Shilin Night Market has become a renowned place for great foods.

Because the night market is close to many schools, students are the main customer group. Goods are sold at less expensive prices as compared to regular stores. There are special areas for furniture, clothing, photo shops or pet shops. The finery shops and cold dessert shops in "lover's lane" attract most student customers.

Shilin Night Market covers a large area. When one walks in the turning lanes and alleys, he (she) would often find something unexpected. The night market is packed with many people during holidays.
