Overview:
The Paradise area of Mt. Rainier provides year round access to a huge area of backcountry terrain to explore on skis or snowboards. This collection of tours highlights several of the main routes that provide numerous descent options and opens doors to further areas of exploration. Most winter tours will begin out of the Paradise parking lot which is maintained by the park through the stormy days of winter. As the snow recedes, many of the high snowfields on the northwest and north sides of the park are accessible. The tours vary in length and difficulty and can be modified in length or route to suit most anyone's skill or fitness level.
This is the beginning of this tour bundle. As more of the guides are completed the bundle will be expanded. A complete video guide is available on Amazon's Instant Video - see the link in the Resources Box below.
Tips:
For skiers, boarders and hikers on snowshoes, be prepared for harsh mountain weather year round. Carry the ten essentials and avalanche rescue equipment (beacons, shovels and probes) in any season other than mid-summer when avalanches are exceedingly rare on these routes. Do not travel alone and use your head. These routes are used at your own risk and each person should weigh their decision to enter the backcountry based on the conditions of the day.
