Overview: This is an out-and-back hike that takes you to the top of a 3,500 foot mountain just to the south of the main High Peaks Complex. At the summit is a firetower you can feel free to climb if open for great views of all the surrounding Adirondack Peaks. On the trail in you will cross wet areas with planks on the trail and have good views across Lake Jimmy. Hope for good weather at the top and bring your camera.

Tips: Upper Works Trailhead:
Take exit 29 off of I-87 and follow Rte. 2 for 17 miles to an intersection with a sign for "National Lead". Turn right here and after just half a mile you wil pass the intersection for the Tahawas Club and a sign for Lower Works Road before crosssing some railroad tracks. After 6.3 miles turn left onto Upper Works Road. You'll pass several trailheads along this road. Use the track in this guide to find the parking lot for the right one for this hike. There are no fees to park here.

Summit of Mt. Adams

At the top there is a fire tower that offers spectacular views in all directions. Look North to see the bulk of the High Peaks including Mt. Marcy, the state's highpoint rising above the rest. If the firetower is open definitely climb it for the views. Unfortunately when I was here in the winter it was pretty socked in. If I come across better photos on EveryTrail I'll put them in this guide. The summit is 3,520 feet. From here turn around and head back the way you came.
