Overview:
This peak in the Adirondack High Peaks is over 4,000 feet in height but when the initial surveys were taken to name the 46 high peaks for the climbing club it was considered under 4,000 feet. With more accurate laser and gps surveys this has become the unlisted 4,000 footer of the high peaks and for those 46ers with any grain of self-respect this is a must add-on to their climbing list! It's a long trek with very few views but if you've climbed Allen this won't be your worse climb!
Tips:
Directions to Heart Lake (Adirondack Loj) parking area:
Take the Adirondack Northway (I-87) to Exit 30. Turn left on Route 73 toward Keene and Lake Placid, continue on Route 73 for 26.5 miles. Turn left on Adirondack Loj Road (High Peaks Trailhead sign). It is five miles to the Loj. There is a $10 per day parking fee here now.
Tips: When I climbed this a bunch of nasty beavers had wreaked hell at the Wallface Ponds area creating a massive pond that the trail disappeared into. You may need to use some ingenuity getting through/around this area.
