Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 3.6 miles / 5.8 km
Duration: 1-3 hours

Overview: Fun little hike just off of Lucas valley road in Marin. The first mile is a heart thumper.

Tips: Take Lucas valley road off highway 101 and head west. Take a right at Mt McKinley Dr. Turn Left at Idylberry Rd and then a right onto Rubicon Dr. Park your car there by the gate. This is the entrance to the horse stables. At the top it's pretty exposed so you might want to bring some sunscreen. There is a 1400Ft gain in elevation in about 1.25 miles so pace yourself. Your reward is a beautiful 360Deg view of Marin when you get to the top. The first 3/4 miles is pretty well shaded.

A beautiful, steep climb up a natural steep canyon. We only had an hour, and after an hour and a half, we were still climbing, hoping to get to the fire road. We think we were close, but turned back and went down the same way we came. We hiked up and down in about two hours. Count on 3 full hours to do the whole loop. It's a beautiful, natural environment, with great views, and much shade along the way.
