Overview: A Mecca for cross-country skiing area in Slovakia, Kremnica Mountains boasts plenty of straightened up trails in fantastic breathtaking surroundings. The snow lasts out much longer than elsewhere. One of the best entry points to Kremnica Mountains to the so called Northern Loop is Kordiky village taking you through wonderful forests.

The moderate trip starting and finishing in Kordiky village is about 16.8 km, gaining about 510 m in elevation. It generally takes about 3:40 hours for average cross-country skiers to complete the trip, allowing just minimal time for refreshment stops.

To sum up the trip: From Kordiky (on foot) to Kordicke sedlo. Then a beautiful loop through the forest passing Tabla, Turnoff Do Mokrej Doliny, Vaclavak to Kordicke sedlo. From Kordicke sedlo (partly on foot) down to Kordiky.

Tips: Bring some drinks and food supplies. You may refuel in the destination of Kordiky village.

In lower altitudes, especially nearby a village, there may be less snow. Take off your skis in time to avoid injuries or damaging your skis.

Alternatives. You may shorten the trip.
1. Dropp off POI 3 and PO4. From POI 2 (Kordicke sedlo) make a left turn downhill by taking a wide trail about 600 m long. This is a direct shortcut to POI 5 (Under Kordicke sedlo), then turn left. The total trip is about 12 km.
2. Drop off POI 6 (Vaclavak). Once you reach POI 5 (Under Kordicke sedlo), turn left upwards by taking a wide trail about 600 m. This is a direct shortcut to POI 2 (Kordicke sedlo), then return to the trailhead. The total trip is about 10.3 km.

This is where your trip starts. Adjacent to the bus stop there is a parking lot.

The next POI (Kordicke sedlo) is about 1.9 km. From the bus stop, head W on foot carrying your skis until you come to Kordicke sedlo. Overcome a steep ascent through the forest. If there is too much snow in Kordiky village, start from Traditional start, which usually has a trail trodden by other skiers and is more comfortable to start.

Take a break, have a sip and put on your skis. Remember this spot, this is both the start and the end of the loop.

The next POI (Tabla) is about 2 km. Head N through the forest, taking the trail which is usually not straightened up but takes you through lovely surroundings. Sometimes, you may ride through the virgin snow as this section is not haunted so frequently.

Under Kordicke sedlo: officially, this point does not have a signpost. We aptly name it Under Kordicke sedlo. Here you may shorten the trip (option 2).

The next POI (Vaclavak) is about 4.6 km. Continue in the same direction as you arrived here. From this point on, the trail is usually well straightened up. This section belongs to the coldest ones in Kremnica mountains. It is really charming in deep winter. On this section you will spend most of your time riding downhill. Climb in the final part.

Vaclavak (1109 m)

Check the signpost named Vaclavak.

The next POI (Kordicke sedlo) is about 2.5 km. Turn left. Head S, then E. Pass the cottage named Cabajka. Continue until you close the loop at Kordicke sedlo.

From Kordicke sedlo, first, take the same way downwards as you came up from the trailhead. Take extreme care while crossing this section as it is steep at some parts. We strongly advise you to take your skis off until Turnoff Kordicke sedlo.

Traditional start

This is the traditional place to start the ascent to Kordicke sedlo. You have two principal options. The shortest way is the direct ascent up through the forest while carrying your skis (our case). The alternative is longer and takes you through the meadows above Kordiky village.
