Overview:
This 725 acre wetland preserve is home to numerous nesting Great Blue Herons a variety of shorebirds and even nesting bald eagles. There are numerous trails for the whole family with multiple viewing areas with binoculars and scopes available to visitors at the main building. I urge you to check out the preserve website attached to this guide as they often offer guided bird tours for visitors. One of the best times to visit the preserve is during fall migratory season.
Don't even think about exploring this area without checking out the fantastic visitor center first!
Tips:
The preserve is found just south of Hillsboro on Hwy 219. It will be on your left side if coming from Hillsboro and parking is free.
There is a large parking lot and it is free. It might get busy on weekends. From here follow the trail signs to start your exploring. Everything is very well marked so getting lost is not a worry here.
There are many different trails you can around the preserve. Here are some photos of the wildlife you may see, as well as a photo of Mt. Hood which can be seen on a clear day over the wetlands.
