Overview: Follow the Ice Age Trail through the southern end of the Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit. You'll be able to enjoy countless kettles right from the trail as you meander through forest and meadow.

This complete and detailed guide covers the Washington County Milwaukee River segment of the Ice Age Trail and all it's access points, trailheads, parking, connecting trails, communities, parks, preserves, and facilities.

The Ice Age Trail is a thousand-mile footpath highlighting the remnants left behind by glaciers during the last ice age over 12,000 years ago. Designated as a National Scenic Trail, the Ice Age trail follows the terminal moraine of the last glaciation throughout Wisconsin providing some of the world's best examples of glacial formations such as kettles, moraines, and drumlins.

New Fane Trail Area Trailhead

The Ice Age Trail:Washington County Miwauke River segment starts in at the Washington/Fond du Lac county line, which is in between two trailheads/access points.

With trails, parking, water, restrooms, and a spur to the Ice Age Trail, the The New Fane Trail Area offers the best option to start this segment.

Park in the paved lot, and follow the Purple/Red loop trail up to the Ice Age Trail spur.

There is no parking available here. Park at the New Fane Trail Area instead and take the Purple/Red loop trail to the Ice Age Trail spur.

The trailhead is marked by a sign at the back of a large parking area off of CTH-H, next to an information kiosk.

A gravel road heading south connects the parking area/trailhead to CTH-H.

The trail joins CTH-H.

The trail turns right and follows CTH-H west for 1.1 mile to the Eisenbahn Trail, just east of USH-45.

Eisenbahn Trailhead

The Eisenbahn (German for iron road)is an old railbed that has been converted for use as a bike trail. This 12 mile segment connects to paved trails in West Bend.

The Ice Age Trail:Washington County Milwaukee River ends at the Eisenbahn trail, just east of the intersection of CTH-H & USH-45.

The Ice Age Trail:Kewaskum segment heads south down the Eisenbahn trail.

There is no parking available at the trailhead, but there is some parking available on the northwest corner of the intersection at the McDonald's.
