This trail is out-and-back, not a loop, and is 2 miles in one direction, or 4 miles round trip, and it is easy to moderate. If you are hiking after recent rains, the landscape will be green and lush, but also make the creek crossings (3 total) treacherous.
The trail continues past the recorded route if you wish to extend the hike.
The whole area between Dulzura and Jamul outside San Diego is beautiful. Rolling green hills with steep rocky peaks here and there.
A creek runs along the canyon. If you visit after rain, be prepared to deal with creek crossings. Hiking poles and water proof hiking shoes are a good idea for this.
If you visit after a long period of no rain in the area, the creek is dry.
Bring a 32oz water bottle and a light jacket if you visit early morning or late afternoon. If you like photography, bring your camera, there are some beautiful views waiting for you.
