Overview:
The north end of Hermitage park is a shared paved path for all users and it is also home to a very large off leash area for pets. The trail takes you from one of the many parking lots in Hermitage Park and down along the North Saskatchewan River. There is one beach location where pets and people can get right up to the river and fido can go for a swim.
A new feature in Hermitage Park is the Kennedale Constructed Wetland. Once a mined out gravel pit, it has been transformed into the City’s first wetland built exclusively for stormwater treatment and river protection. With the help of marshes, pools and natural vegetation, the new wetland cleans stormwater before it flows into the North Saskatchewan River.
Continuing down the trail, you will pass many local residents as they take advantage of this great trail and park. There are many neighbourhood access points to this trail and it is shared by all. Coming back to the wetlands area, there is a lookout point with some signage describing the purpose of the new wetland area. This trail is an enjoyable one for pets and pet owners alike and a chance to see a man made wetlands at work.
