Grizdale Circular Mountain Bike Route

The route starts at the side of Lake Windermere with a steep up hill climb to Far Sawrey

The end of the steep climb from the side of the Lake towards Far Sawrey is rewarded with some beautiful scenery.

Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the 17th century farmhouse which was the home of Beatrix Potter. Many of the famous children's stories were created in this little house.
She bought Hill Top farm in 1905 from the proceeds of the sale of the first of her books about Peter Rabbit. The property is now a museum, owned and run by the National Trust and is one of the most visited houses in the Lake District.

The bridleway which runs out of Hawkshead and up to the tracks in the Grizdale Forest starts at a small lane along the side of The Kings Arms Hotel.

Follow the lane past the hotel and under an arch with a sign reading "Minstrels Gallery Team Room"

A place to take a break and admire the view.

After a fair up hill climb the bridleway meets up with the smoother Grizdale track.

This is the start of the dedicated off road mountain bike route, which features a number of purpose built wooden bridge sections throughout the track.

Stay on the Red Mountain Bike Route until Moor Top Car Park

The bridleway goes through some areas of thick forrest.

Grizdale Forrest is the home to many wooden animal sculptures.

The bridleway back down from the Grizdale Track can be quite a challenge in places

The last bridleway on the route is a smooth relatively flat track back to Cunsey

The final stretch of the route finishes on a quiet road along the side on Lake Windermere
