Overview: Beautiful scenery on way to remarkable Gemini Bridges. The bridges are not apparent until you get close and look down. An extremely popular mountain bike route. Please slow down to minimize dust when passing. To view bridges from below, see Bull Canyon Trail. (Available from FunTreks on EveryTrail.) Turn left on road before Gooney Bird Rock for good camp spots. Open all year weather permitting. Best time to go: Spring and Fall. Located on BLM land. For current status call Bureau of Land Management, Moab Field Office at (435) 259-2100.

Rating:

Easy. This once-rocky road has been tamed by rock-grinding equipment. One steep hill after Point #5 requires four-wheel drive.

Tips: There is a small fee to use parking area at start. Watch for mountain bikers. Don’t let kids play around the Bridges; a fall here would be certain death.

Parking Lot at Start

Turn west in parking lot. Unlicensed vehicles can unload here; however, there is a fee to park. Continue west across railroad tracks, then turn south.

High Shelf Road

Road climbs high above Highway 191 with great views looking south. Watch for lots of mountain bikers.

Road on left goes to Bride Arch and secluded camping.

Pass distinctive Gooney Bird Rock on left.

T Intersection

Bear left here for Gold Bar Rim Trail. Right uphill goes to Gemini Bridges Trail and Bull Canyon, both available as FunTreks eGuides on EveryTrail.

Turn for Bull Canyon

Stay right to continue to Gemini Bridges. Left goes to Bull Canyon.

Turn for Metal Masher

Important Turn

Bear left here. Straight will bypass the parking area for Gemini Bridges. Straight also connects to a larger road that goes west all the way to Highway 313.

Parking Area

Vehicles must stop here at small parking area. At one time you could drive all the way down to the arches. Today you must walk the remaining short distance.

Gemini Bridges

At first you don't see the arches called Gemini Bridges because you are on top of them looking down. You can walk across them, but be extremely careful; it's a long way to the bottom. To see the dramatic view from the bottom of the arches, see Bull Canyon Trail, available as an eGuide from FunTreks on EveryTrail.

Exit Point of Metal Masher

After visiting the arches, you can return the way you came or continue west to Highway 313. To do this, bear left out of parking lot and head north short distance to continuation of Gemini Bridges Road. A left here takes you to major intersection. Bear left here to reach Highway 313 in 3.7 miles. This is also the exit point of difficult and popular Metal Masher Trail.
